Technology Services (TS) will be performing critical network maintenance Monday March 13th, 2023 and Tuesday March 14th, 2023 from 5:30 a.m. – 8 a.m. Details on the maintenance being performed are available below:

UPDATE:

  • 3/14/2023 at 7:25 a.m. – The scheduled firewall maintenance is now complete. Note: If you connected to GlobalProtect VPN prior to 7:02 a.m., you may need to reconnect to vpn.pugetsound.edu.


SYSTEMS IMPACTED: 

  • Inbound and outbound internet access will be intermittently unavailable for short periods of time (~2-5 minutes) during the maintenance window

  • GlobalProtect VPN will be intermittently unavailable

REASON FOR IMPACT:

  • To ensure a secure, reliable computing environment TS will be completing routine firmware updates on our security appliances (firewalls).

Update: The campus-wide network outage planned for Sunday morning has been cancelled. The remaining planned maintenance will still be performed as scheduled, from 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.


From 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. a firmware update will be installed on our core switches. This will cause a full network outage on campus resulting in the following:

  • Internet access will be unavailable on campus.
  • Accessing services on campus that require a network connection will not be available including email, file shares, PeopleSoft, and other services.
  • Zoom phones connected to the campus network will not work.
  • Wifi will be unavailable.
  • Wired network will be unavailable.

Network and Wi-Fi : Library and Chapel Network Outage [RESTORED]Issue started on Sunday, January 22 around 11 a.m.
CURRENT STATUS: The Network and Wi-Fi in the Library and Chapel has been restored. The campus wide outage that occurred on Sunday, January 22, 2023 was caused by a network error in Collins Library. Rebooting the switches and other actions resolved the majority of the campus outage, but also caused an additional error for Collins Library. The immediate issue has been resolved which restored connectivity to Collins Library and Kilworth Memorial Chapel. Additional work is in progress to prevent this network issue from happening in the future.

Network and Wi-Fi in Collins Library and Kilworth Chapel is Restored

Dear Members of the Campus Community,

The Network and Wi-Fi in the Collins Library and Kilworth Memorial Chapel have been restored. 

The campus-wide outage that occurred on Sunday, January 22, 2023, was caused by a network error in Collins Library. Rebooting the switches and other actions resolved the majority of the campus outage, but also caused an additional error for Collins Library. The immediate issue has been resolved which restored connectivity to Collins Library and Kilworth Memorial Chapel. Additional work is in progress to prevent this network issue from happening in the future.

Network and Wi-Fi : Update on Library and Chapel Network Outage Issue started on Sunday, January 22 around 11 a.m.
CURRENT STATUS: The Network and Wi-Fi in the Library and Chapel are currently down due to an inter-building fiber failure. TS currently has an external resource onsite helping troubleshoot and remediate the issue. TS is working to ensure this issue is resolved by the end of today. An update will be provided as new information is available or if more time is needed to resolve the issue.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 

  • Please find alternatives for printing and internet access, as they will not be available in the library until this is resolved. We are very sorry for the inconvenience.

REASON FOR IMPACT: Power over Ethernet Injector Hardware Failure
SOLUTION: Patched around failed hardware device to restore network access. Wireless access points in Thompson Hall are working correctly.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
·    This only affects users on the first floor of Thompson Hall
·       ​​The university network, internet access and wireless in other campus locations are NOT affected. 
·​        Technology Services is working to remediate the outage
