[Tscommunications] {Network}: Wheelock Network Upgrade/Maintenance, June 30th, July 1st and July 2nd

Update 8:51 PM : Our maintenance activity is taking longer than expected.  New ETA for completion for today is approximately 12 midnight.  We appreciate your patience.

NETWORK: Wheelock Network Upgrade

June 30th, July 1st and July 2nd from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

SYSTEMS IMPACTED:  All Network services will be impacted in Wheelock including VOIP and Wireless.

REASON FOR IMPACT: Technology Services will be performing an upgrade replacing older equipment to increase network stability, reliability and interoperability. This maintenance will cause extended downtime to all network services and Internet access for periods that will last several hours as it will require removing old hardware and installing new hardware and wiring.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

·        In the event that we have a longer than anticipated outage, we will send out an update

·        All network services including remoting into computers or accessing resources (ie cameras) in Wheelock via the VPN or from other areas on campus will not function

[Tscommunications] {NETWORK}: Phone/VOIP Upgrade – July 15th, 2020 – 7PM to Midnight

NETWORK: Phone/VOIP System Upgrade

July 15th, 2020 – 7PM to Midnight

SYSTEMS IMPACTED:  All VOIP Services on campus will be affected including, desk phones, walls phones, and all devices that use VOIP analog converters such as Fax machines, elevator phones, security systems and emergency towers.

REASON FOR IMPACT: Technology Services will be performing an upgrade to the phone system increase stability, reliability and interoperability with our phone system. This maintenance will cause short intermittent downtime to phone/VOIP services (typically less than 5 minutes) around campus between 7PM and Midnight.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

·        In the event that we have a longer than anticipated outage, we will send out an update

·        All phone/VOIP services will experience intermittent down time as we migrate phones and VOIP devices to new servers.  While the migration of these phones will not take long (usually less than 5 minutes as the phones and devices reboot) we will need to do testing and verification during the full maintenance window.

NETWORK: Planned Network Outage [COMPLETE]

Update: All work has been completed and the network is back up and running.

 

REASON FOR IMPACT:

There will be a short disruption to network services at approximately 4:30PM in Weyerhaeuser.  There is a faulty backup battery system (UPS) that needs to be replaced that is causing intermittent power outages.  We will need to disconnect power from the faulty UPS and reconnect power to a new unit.  This work will take approximately 15 minutes.

{Email} Issues Connecting to Email via Outlook – Tues June 16 @ 8:30 a.m.

EMAIL: Connecting to Email via Outlook

June 16, 2020 at 8:30 a.m.

REASON FOR IMPACT: Technology Services has noticed multiple individuals have been unable to access their Puget Sound email via Outlook on their computer. TS is actively working to resolve the issue. If you are unable to access your Puget Sound email via Outlook on your device please try using webmail.pugetsound.edu for the interim while Technology Services remediates the issue. Please also notify the Service Desk by emailing them at servicedesk@pugetsound.edu so they are aware you have been impacted.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

·        Examples of errors received when connecting to Outlook:

o   Windows Security Microsoft Outlook prompt for credentials.

o   Cannot start Microsoft Outlook.

o   Cannot open the Outlook window.

o   The set of folders cannot be opened.

o   The file (file path here) is not an Outlook data file (.ost).

o   Note this is happening for various users on both Mac and PC and different versions of Outlook
