This change was completed without incident at 5:30am this morning. We continue to monitor key services for any reliance on this retired DNS system.
At 5:30 AM on Monday, October 25th, our legacy DNS servers will be turned off (houdini.ups.edu 220.127.116.11; babel.ups.edu 18.104.22.168). These servers have been effectively retired for about six months. Any computers with these DNS servers set within the university network should immediately be changed to 22.214.171.124 & 126.96.36.199.
DHCP has been handing out these new DNS IPs for months, and only users who set the entries statically will be affected – should be very few users; we’ve watched the logs to make sure no large population was using the old service.
We have decommissioned all of the Cisco APs that were associated with the Tippingpoint servers. Today the Tippingpoint server (Roving Planets) were shutdown and turned off.
Kristen Spiese requested that the Shasta server be shutdown.
It will be available to be brought back online if needed.
We will wait to repurpose the machine temporarily.
The temporary CA “UPS CA No.2” has been decomissioned, as has the CA on dm-2. These are superseded by University of Puget Sound Certification No. 3
Loanshark-slave has been decommissioned as the secondary external DNS server. We have replaced it with a newer server that has been assigned the same IP address for convenience.
The RADIUS server has been moved to a new server with the same IP address as before, so no changes to services using RADIUS should be required. The client file was copied and test to ensure proper functioning of the server.
The RESOURCES domain will be decommissioned between 8am and 9am on Tuesday June 1, 2004. RESOURCES is the last Microsft Windows NT domain supported by OIS. All easily identifiable workstations have been removed from this domain. Any workstations in the this domain after June 1 will experience problems logging in to the active Microsoft Windows 2000 and 2003 domain structures. If you experience problems logging in and believe your workstation may actually be a member of the RESOURCES domain please contact the OIS Help Desk, email@example.com, (253) 879-8585.
Majordomo which has failed to work since September 3, 2003 as the result of unknown reasons has been replaced. Mailman is now up and functional. Most lists that previously existed in majordomo have been recreated in mailman.
These lists can be viewed at, http://mail.ups.edu/mailman/listinfo.
Majordomo is down. Majordomo, the software package used for user discussion lists has failed after working without an error for almost two week on the new mail server. For some unknown reason the software now fails to function properly. We have attempted to upgrade with no success. We have attempted to roll back to the old server, but no luck.
As planned a year ago, Webboard is decommissioned. Blackboard is the replacement for this service.
