[Complete] Legacy DNS to be Retired 10/25/2010 at 5:30 AM

This change was completed without incident at 5:30am this morning. We continue to monitor key services for any reliance on this retired DNS system.

At 5:30 AM on Monday, October 25th, our legacy DNS servers will be turned off (houdini.ups.edu 192.124.98.110; babel.ups.edu 192.124.98.111). These servers have been effectively retired for about six months.  Any computers with these DNS servers set within the university network should immediately be changed to 207.207.101.4 & 207.207.101.6.

DHCP has been handing out these new DNS IPs for months, and only users who set the entries statically will be affected – should be very few users; we’ve watched the logs to make sure no large population was using the old service.

Decommission RESOURCES domain

The RESOURCES domain will be decommissioned between 8am and 9am on Tuesday June 1, 2004. RESOURCES is the last Microsft Windows NT domain supported by OIS. All easily identifiable workstations have been removed from this domain. Any workstations in the this domain after June 1 will experience problems logging in to the active Microsoft Windows 2000 and 2003 domain structures. If you experience problems logging in and believe your workstation may actually be a member of the RESOURCES domain please contact the OIS Help Desk, helpdesk@ups.edu, (253) 879-8585.

Majordomo down

Majordomo is down. Majordomo, the software package used for user discussion lists has failed after working without an error for almost two week on the new mail server. For some unknown reason the software now fails to function properly. We have attempted to upgrade with no success. We have attempted to roll back to the old server, but no luck.
