{ZOOM}: Planned Changes, Tuesday August 27, 7:30 a.m. – 8 a.m. [COMPLETE]

This logo identifies the Technology Services department within the University of Puget Sound

Dear members of the Puget Sound community,

Technology Services (TS) has planned the following maintenance activities. No outage or interruption to services is expected. Details on the maintenance being performed are available below:

Zoom: Change to Login Process

Tuesday, August 27 | 7:30 a.m. – 8 a.m. [COMPLETE]

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • To log in to Zoom in a browser, sign in to login.pugetsound.edu and click on the “Zoom” tile.
  • To log in to Zoom on the Zoom desktop or mobile app, click the “SSO” button and enter “pugetsound-edu” as the company domain. Alternately, click “I don't know the company domain” then enter your email address and click “Continue.” You will be redirected to login.pugetsound.edu to sign in.

SYSTEMS IMPACTED:

  • TS will be requiring single sign-on (SSO) to log in to Zoom, with the exception of certain accounts.

REASON FOR MAINTENANCE:

  • Requiring SSO will improve the security of Zoom accounts by leveraging our existing authentication processes and providing multi-factor authentication.

  • The change will simplify the login process by automatically redirecting campus members to log in to Zoom via login.pugetsound.edu

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

  • No outage or interruption to any Zoom services is expected.

  • If you have a personal Zoom account using your university email address, you will be prompted to join the university’s Zoom account or change email address. If you are a current academic partner, administrative partner, faculty, staff, or student; select the option to join the account. If you are not currently affiliated with the university or are not eligible for a university Zoom account, please change the email address for your personal Zoom account to a non-university email address.

  • If you have a common area phone account using a shared email address that you must log in to with a Zoom-specific password and are unable to do so after the change, please submit a ticket with the email address of the account and a brief explanation.

For more information on Technology Services' Incident Communication Plan or to view a list of our Critical Systems and definitions, please visit our Service Announcements page on the Puget Sound website.

{ZOOM}: Planned Changes, Wednesday, March 27 | 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. [COMPLETE]

This logo identifies the Technology Services department within the University of Puget Sound

Dear members of the Puget Sound community,

Technology Services (TS) has planned the following maintenance activities. No outage or interruption to services is expected. Details on the maintenance being performed are available below:

Zoom: Updates to User Attributes and Password Requirements

Wednesday, March 27 | 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. [COMPLETE]

SYSTEMS IMPACTED:

  • TS will modify the existing Okta/Zoom integration to send and update display names.

  • TS will begin using a unique attribute instead of email address to match accounts in the Okta/Zoom integration.

  • TS will update the Zoom password complexity requirements.

REASON FOR MAINTENANCE:

  • Zoom currently receives first/last name updates. However, the display name attribute is not mapped in the integration and therefore does not receive updates. Sending display names will ensure that a campus member’s current chosen name is shown in their Zoom profile and will remove the need for manual edits in Zoom if a chosen name is updated in myPugetSound.

  • Email addresses are currently used as the unique attribute in Zoom. This change will prevent duplicate accounts from being created and better preserve chat/phone/meeting information if someone undergoes a username change.

  • Setting password complexity requirements will better protect accounts logging in with email and Zoom password, as opposed to single sign-on (SSO) or Google, and will provide consistency with the complexity requirements outlined in the password policy.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

  • No outage or interruption to any Zoom services is expected.

  • If you previously included pronouns in your Zoom display name instead of using Zoom’s pronoun feature, you may want to update your Zoom profile since the display name field will be overwritten with your chosen name. You can add pronouns to your Zoom profile and choose how you would like to share your pronouns. Please see this article for more information.

  • You will still be able to rename yourself in Zoom meetings.

  • Updated password requirements will be enforced when you change your Zoom password. For the majority of campus members, this will have no impact as TS recommends logging into Zoom with SSO through login.pugetsound.edu with “pugetsound-edu” as the company domain.

  • After the conclusion of the spring term, TS plans to require SSO to log in to Zoom, with the exception of certain accounts. More information and timing of the change will be communicated at a later date.
