{GOOGLE CALENDAR}: Planned Changes, Fri, Jan 16, 12 p.m. – 12:15 p.m.

This logo identifies the Technology Services department within the University of Puget Sound

Dear members of the Puget Sound community,

Technology Services (TS) has planned the following maintenance activities. No outage or interruption to services are expected. Details on the maintenance being performed are available below:

Google Calendar: Planned Changes

Friday, January 16 | 12 p.m. – 12:15 p.m.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

  • TS will change how Google Calendar handles invitations sent via email. Currently, calendar invitations from any sender are automatically added to your calendar.

  • After the change, only invitations from known senders will be automatically added to your calendar. Known senders include individuals with a pugetsound.edu email address, senders saved in your contacts, and individuals with whom you have previously corresponded.

  • A gray banner will appear in invitations from unknown senders indicating that the event has not yet been added, with options to add the event or report it as spam.

  • The subject line for invitations from unknown senders will begin with “Invitation from an unknown sender,” while invitations from known senders will continue to begin with “Invitation.”

  • Once you accept an invitation from an unknown sender, future invitations from that sender will be automatically added to your calendar.

  • Please review this support article for how to adjust your individual calendar settings.

SYSTEMS IMPACTED:

REASON FOR MAINTENANCE:

  • Attackers send fraudulent event invitations that are automatically added to calendars.

  • To reduce the risk of calendar phishing, TS will adjust Google Calendar settings so that invitations from unknown senders will not appear on your calendar unless the invitation is explicitly accepted.

[CANCELED] {BLOGS/EDBLOGS}: Planned Maintenance, Thu, Jan 15, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

This planned maintenance is being canceled and will be rescheduled for another date.

This logo identifies the Technology Services department within the University of Puget Sound

Dear members of the Puget Sound community,

Technology Services (TS) has planned the following maintenance activities. Details on the maintenance being performed are available below:

WordPress (Blogs and EdBlogs): Planned Maintenance

Thursday, January 15 | 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. [CANCELED]

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

  • Please ensure all changes are saved as a draft or published prior to the maintenance window.

  • The sites hosted on blogs.pugetsound.edu and edblogs.pugetsound.edu will be unavailable from both on-campus and off-campus during the maintenance window.

  • Because the IP addresses of the sites will be changing, it is possible that your device may try connecting to the old IP addresses even after the change which will cause errors. Usually, this will resolve itself within 24 hours. However, if you have issues accessing blogs.pugetsound.edu or edblogs.pugetsound.edu after the maintenance window is complete, you may try flushing the DNS cache on your device.

SYSTEMS IMPACTED:

REASON FOR MAINTENANCE:

  • TS will be moving the blogs server into a dedicated network zone on the firewall. This improves network security by segregating public-facing servers from the internal network and allowing more granular controls.

For more information on Technology Services' Incident Communication Plan or to view a list of our Critical Systems and definitions, please visit our Service Announcements page on the Puget Sound website.

Reminder: Okta Login Changes Go Live August 5

This logo identifies the Technology Services department within the University of Puget Sound

Dear members of the campus community,

Technology Services (TS) would like to remind you of the upcoming update to login.pugetsound.edu on Tuesday, August 5

What is changing on August 5?

  • The university’s Okta deployment will be upgraded to Okta Identity Engine to provide a more seamless and secure login experience. You will notice slight differences on the login page, as well as improvements to account setup, account recovery, account settings, and multi-factor usage and enrollment.

  • No action is required on your part, but we recommend that you review our support article for details on what to expect.

Information on future MFA changes requiring action

  • Phone-based multi-factor authentication (MFA) will be gradually retired. If you currently receive a text message (SMS) or phone call to verify your login, we strongly recommend setting up a supported MFA method – Okta Verify, Google Authenticator, and/or Security Key or Biometric Authenticator – by following the instructions in this article.

  • During Summer and Fall 2025, Technology Services will perform outreach and develop resources to help the campus community transition to supported MFA methods to prepare for the retirement of SMS and Voice Call options.

Additional information and support

Please see our FAQ in the TS Support Portal for more information. If you have any questions or would like assistance setting up MFA, please visit the Tech Center in the lower level of Collins Memorial Library during business hours, submit a ticket, or call 253-879-8585.
