Clock craziness with GANESH

The clock on GANESH went crazy. Apparently this is due to a faulty NTP server somewhere out there, which causes a loop when contacted. We are reconfiguring all our NTP clients to look at a known subset of NTP servers. GANESH was rebooted to solve the immediate problem.

Web Server follies

In trying to reboot our web server on 30 October, 2002, we ran into a novel problem. When the system tried to mount the filesystems, it gave the error “Only root can do that”. After two hours, we finally found that the mount executable had improper ownership (bin). Boy did we feel stupid!
