\Stafffiles: Instructions for Accessing StaffFiles/Network Shares After Recent Upgrade

Tuesday December 17 @ 7:30 a.m.

REASON FOR IMPACT: Technology Services (TS) migrated the file server wnfs03 [//StaffFiles] to a new server. If someone is not able to access files, connect to //stafffiles or connect to a network share on a Windows machine, Technology Services suggests taking the following steps:

1) Click the Start Menu, type "cmd", right click on "Command Prompt" and click "Run As Administrator"

2) In the new window, type: "ipconfig /flushdns" (without the quotes) then hit "Enter" on your keyboard

3) If that does not work, please restart your computer

4) You can also try re-mapping your network share: https://www.pugetsound.edu/files/resources/mapping-to-a-network-share-2.pdf

Wnfs03: Planned Server Migration

Friday December 13 @ 5 p.m. – Monday December 16 @ 7:30 a.m.

REASON FOR IMPACT: Technology Services will be migrating the file server wnfs03 to a new server this weekend.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

·         Files written over the maintenance period may not be available when the new server is put into production.  Technology Services will retain data written over the weekend on the old server and move it after the migration to the new server is complete.

·         Please reboot your system if you are unable to access files after the maintenance is complete.

NETWORK: Intermittent Internet Connectivity Concerns [RESOLVED]

REASON FOR IMPACT: Technology Services has noticed intermittent issues with Internet/Network connectivity. Some users may have experienced issues connecting to the internet. Our vendor for network connectivity experienced a short outage and the issue has been stabilized. The vendor has engineers investigating the cause.

Server/Network Battery System: System replacement

Saturday, December 7 @ 7 a.m. – Monday December 9 @ 5 p.m.

REASON FOR IMPACT: To ensure a reliable computing environment Technology Services will be replacing half of our primary battery backup systems that support our core server and network infrastructure.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

·         There will be a period of approximately 10 minutes around 7 a.m. Saturday where new users accessing the network will not be allowed on as one of the network support systems reboots.

·         No downtime is expected for other systems as all systems have redundant power paths.
