A great visual of wealth inequality in the US:
Put in real numbers, in the period of 2008-10, the top 1% wealthiest Americans had net worths of at minimum $8.4 million. (69 times that of the median US household)

Interesting and informative video, Tom. Where is it from? Having the site up front would be useful.
It is also interesting to think about the differences in wealth distribution vs. income distribution and then mobility.
Here is another link, this one about income mobility, that I found after listening to an NPR story in January. http://www.equality-of-opportunity.org/
I sourced the video from youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPKKQnijnsM, and the last bit of data is from: http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/01/17/measuring-the-top-1-by-wealth-not-income/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=1& . Below the video on youtube are the sources of the data they used. I looked for wealth mobility statistics as well but could not find any reliable numbers. Garret Milam also referenced some interesting income mobility statistics in a post last week.
