FYI
Monday, July 12th between 5:00-6:00am we are scheduled to have a Safe Connect Server Upgrade installed. This process will not effect users on the network. The most noticeable result of the upgrade with be a visible change to the Safe Connect Administration Console.
Cascade Release 10.7 is planned for July 14, 2010. This release will include the following features and fixes:
Banner, Famis and Basis were unavailable from 6pm – 8pm on Wednesday June 16, 2010. Minimal if no user disruption was experienced. We believe this was the result of an operating system issue on the Tahoma Server which did not impact Cascade. There was a brief disruption to Cascade as the server was rebooted. All services recovered immediately following the reboot.
[Updated 6/9/10 2:11 PM] Service has been restored and the survey tool is once again available for use. We apologize for any inconvenience.
The appliance used by the Technology Service Desk to survey users with resolved Clientele tickets is currently unavailable. We are working to restore service as soon as possible. For assistance, contact the Service Desk at 253.879.8585 or servicedesk@pugetsound.edu.
[Updated] Service was restored at 4:50 PM. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Banner and Cascade Web Forms went down at approximately 4:00 PM this afternoon. Technology Services is aware of the disruption and will restore service as soon as possible.
The configuration for Cascade forms, Banner, Famis, Bosscops, and Bosscars was updated to require a new version of Java. The version to be used now is 1.6.0_18.
Note: this caused some issues this morning, when version 19 was inadvertently coded to be downloaded. Several users experienced problems which required their Java to be uninstalled and reinstalled. By 9:30 am, the configuration was updated to download the correct version.
The primary DNS server for the University, houdini (internal: 192.124.98.110) and loanshark-main.ups.edu (external: 192.124.98.48) has moved from a physical server to a VMware VM as of 10 AM on 5/20/2010. All tests show good results and no problems are expected.
Cascade Release 10.6 is planned for June 9, 2010. This release will include the following features and fixes:
In order to ensure that our outgoing email server Gehenna has no stuck messages, it was rebooted this morning at 7:30 AM. Any user trying to send mail outside of Exchange/Outlook around 7:30 AM may have seen warnings or failures, but could re-send messages starting at 7:40 AM.
Please contact the service desk at x8585 should you experience any email issues or significantly delayed messages.
The server known as Orion is no longer available for general use and should be considered retired. Currently it is completely unavailable, but will be relocated to the Science Center for Computer Science use only. Orion previously served NTP (time) services for the University in addition to Computer Science use.
DHCP on the retiring server Houdini.ups.edu (192.124.98.110) is now disabled. All hosts requesting DHCP service on the 192.124.98.x subnet now must get this service from dhcp-1.pugetsound.edu. No user interaction is needed, this should happen automatically.
However, there is a small chance this change will cause mis-configured servers in this subnet to go offline within 24 hours of 5/18/2010 @ 10:45AM when they are unable to renew their IP address.
As of 3PM on 5/17/2010 tick and tock.ups.edu nor the IP addresses 192.124.98.46 and 192.124.98.210 should be used for NTP service. Going forward, please use ntp1.pugetsound.edu and ntp2.pugetsound.edu only.
Tick/tock.ups.edu will continue to work for a short amount of time, but directed at different systems. Please contact the service desk at x8585 if you experience any problem using the new service.
