The configuration for Cascade forms, Banner, Famis, Bosscops, and Bosscars was updated to require a new version of Java. The version to be used now is 1.6.0_18.
Note: this caused some issues this morning, when version 19 was inadvertently coded to be downloaded. Several users experienced problems which required their Java to be uninstalled and reinstalled. By 9:30 am, the configuration was updated to download the correct version.
Updated 5/23/2010 at 3:58 PM: All services are now back online, including password synchronization.
Updated 5/23/2010 at 3:15 PM: Currently all applications are available again, but desktop and email password changes are not currently syncing to Cascade; we expect this issue to be resolved by 5:00 PM.
The next production maintenance window is Sunday, May 23, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
This month some database applications will be unavailable during the outage window including Cascade and Banner. All other services will remain available throughout the maintenance window.
The middle tier on San Juan will be restarted after a configuration update on 2/5/2010 between 5:00 am and 5:30 am PST during the regular maintenance window. The configuration update will help in troubleshooting.

The next production maintenance window is Sunday, November 29th, from 8:00 AM to noon. From 8:00 AM to noon, all database services may be intermittently or entirely unavailable, including: Cascade, FAMIS, Millennium, and Banner.

This month the Sophos PMX servers were patched with the latest Linux patches, and upgraded to the latest PureMessage version.

Web forms was down this morning which included Cascade, Famis and Banner (a separate announcement has been posted to the Help Desk site for public viewing).
Patches were applied on the sanjuan server yesterday, and it wasn’t working after that. Paul fixed something in the configuration and bounced the server and now it’s working again.
[Update 6/1/2009 7:53 AM] Service has been restored.
Cascade, Banner and Famis web forms are experiencing errors. TS is working on this problem and will update with a resolution time when we know more.
The login page for Banner Forms was changed early on 5/15/2009 (see Cascade middle tier http server restarted), so Banner Forms users are prompted for Puget Sound username and password instead of Banner Database username, password, and database name.
Initially, this did not work correctly for Macintosh users, who were required to enter their username and password twice.
This problem was resolved Saturday morning, so Macintosh users should now be able to log in to Banner Forms (and create purchase orders), entering their Puget Sound credentials only one time per session.
To fix the problem, Ed changed parameter baseHTML to point to our modified basejpisso_webutil.htm file.
Technology Services are researching the cause and will update as additional information has become available. This affects CASCADE and BANNER.
Form Server is working again.
As part of implementing Banner Password Synchronization, the Cascade middle tier http server was restarted so that the following change in the httpd.conf file would take effect:

This directs cascade.ups.edu/banner to the new Banner login page that authenticates against OID.

Due to problems on the forms server, we had to bounce it at 2:10 p.m. this afternoon. This kicks all current users off, so I sent an email to them alerting them of the situation. This affected all users in Banner Web Forms and Cascade Web Forms.
We are actively researching the problem and want to get it fixed soon.
Cascade Web Forms and Banner Web Forms were down for a little while after 2 p.m. today. We are having unexplained errors on the forms server and we had to bounce it. We are changing the configuration to see if that helps this problem.
Banner, Budget Administration, and Your Employment information will be unavailable from 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, until 7:00 a.m. on Monday, February 23 due to the Banner migration to new hardware.
[Update 2/22/09 @ 12:00 noon] All services are back on-line. The upgrade went as planned and ahead of schedule.
At 11:30 am, one of the servers began experiencing performance problems. Banner, CRM, FAMIS, and Cascade batch processing are impacted by this.
Update: 2:05 pm, the performance problem on Camano has been resolved. CRM is still down.
