Gehenna Rebooted 5/19/2010 7:30 AM

In order to ensure that our outgoing email server Gehenna has no stuck messages, it was rebooted this morning at 7:30 AM.  Any user trying to send mail outside of Exchange/Outlook around 7:30 AM may have seen warnings or failures, but could re-send messages starting at 7:40 AM.

Please contact the service desk at x8585 should you experience any email issues or significantly delayed messages.

Server Orion Retired

The server known as Orion is no longer available for general use and should be considered retired.  Currently it is completely unavailable, but will be relocated to the Science Center for Computer Science use only.  Orion previously served NTP (time) services for the University in addition to Computer Science use.

DHCP Disabled on Retiring Host HOUDINI.ups.edu

DHCP on the retiring server Houdini.ups.edu (192.124.98.110) is now disabled.  All hosts requesting DHCP service on the 192.124.98.x subnet now must get this service from dhcp-1.pugetsound.edu.  No user interaction is needed, this should happen automatically.

However, there is a small chance this change will cause mis-configured servers in this subnet to go offline within 24 hours of 5/18/2010 @ 10:45AM when they are unable to renew their IP address.

NTP on tick/tock.ups.edu Retiring

As of 3PM on 5/17/2010 tick and tock.ups.edu nor the IP addresses 192.124.98.46 and 192.124.98.210 should be used for NTP service.  Going forward, please use ntp1.pugetsound.edu and ntp2.pugetsound.edu only.

Tick/tock.ups.edu will continue to work for a short amount of time, but directed at different systems.  Please contact the service desk at x8585 if you experience any problem using the new service.

[Resolved] Long running Database Job

Processing a large batch of account deletions over the night of April 1, took much longer than expected. The job was killed a third of the way through and restarted later in the day as it was not adversely affecting performance. The cause of this slowness has been isolated, but not fixed.

[Complete] Sophos PureMessage Quarantine Maintenance 4/2 – 4/6/2010

On Friday April 2nd starting at 1PM maintenance will be performed on our Sophos PureMessage spam quarantine.  During this time users may not have access to all their quarantined messages.  Users can continue to use the system during maintenance, but may experience poor performance.  We expect the system to be back online and fully functional by the afternoon of Tuesday 4/6/2010.

If you believe an important message was caught in Sophos PureMessage during this time, please contact the Service Desk at x8585.
