Vanity URLs: Planned Maintenance

Thursday, April 23 | 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

  • Website redirects from vanity URLs will be temporarily unavailable from both on-campus and off-campus during the maintenance window. 

  • The actual destination website that the vanity URL redirects to will remain available and can be accessed by going to the standard URL (listed below). 

  • Because the IP addresses of the sites will be changing, it is possible that your device may try connecting to the old IP addresses even after the change which will cause errors. Usually, this will resolve itself within 24 hours. However, if you have issues accessing these sites after the maintenance window is complete, you may try flushing the DNS cache on your device.

REASON FOR MAINTENANCE:

  • TS will be updating the IP addresses associated with the vanity URLs into a dedicated network zone on the firewall. This improves network security by segregating public-facing services from the internal network and allowing more granular controls.

  • Technology Services will be replacing a faulty network switch.

 

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

  • During the maintenance window, some wired network connections in Jones Hall will go offline for approximately 1 hour.

  • Technology Services schedules regular maintenance windows, generally on the second Sunday of every other month, to ensure a secure, reliable computing environment.

Faculty Websites (Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, and Sound Writing): Planned Maintenance

Thursday, April 9 | 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

  • Websites hosted on two web servers will be unavailable from both on-campus and off-campus during the maintenance window. 

  • Because the IP addresses of the sites will be changing, it is possible that your device may try connecting to the old IP addresses even after the change which will cause errors. Usually, this will resolve itself within 24 hours. However, if you have issues accessing these sites after the maintenance window is complete, you may try flushing the DNS cache on your device.
