Subject: [Tscommunications] {Network} Internet Slowness On-Campus for Wireless/ Wired, December 7, 9:45p – Ongoing

This is an announcement from Technology Services (TS). Please see details below.

NETWORK: Internet Slowness On-Campus for Wireless & Wired Connections

Wednesday, December 7, 9:45p – Ongoing

REASON FOR IMPACT: Technology Services is working with our Internet Service Provider to troubleshoot faulty network equipment that is responsible for providing our Internet speed (bandwidth) on campus. Accessing Internet and network while on-campus is currently slow and Puget Sound web sites and services such as email will appear slow from off-campus as well. There is currently no estimated time to resolution, though our Technology Services staff are on-site and are working through escalated support with our Internet Service Provider. We will provide updates as they are available.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  1. The network equipment that is causing the problem is the network router that provides external Internet access from the outside world to our campus. We receive this service from K20, an Internet Service Provider. The campus still has some Internet, albeit slow, because Technology Services has a secondary link established in case of emergency. However, while our normal Internet line allows for speeds up to 10Gb (depending on the networking equipment, cabling and computing devices available to parse the connection), this secondary backup link has 200 Mb available.
