The next production maintenance window is Sunday, July 26th, from 8:00 AM to noon.
All services may be intermittently or entirely unavailable, including:
- Personal and departmental file shares (on Alexandria and Merlin2)
- Database Applications: Cascade, FAMIS, Millennium, and Banner
Office 2007 Compatibility Files Installed on Campus Computers
In preparation for the Office 2007 deployment in late July, Microsoft Office Compatibility files will be installed on campus computers this evening. In addition, we will be performing system scans over the next few days to ensure PCs meet the minimum requirements for Office 2007.
No action is needed from the campus community and the files will be automatically applied upon rebooting after June 23, 2009. The reboot may take a minute or two as files are applied.

[resolved] Pre-Production Patch Window 5/21 – 7:00 to 9:00am

Webmail, IMAP, POP3 server SSL Certifcates Replaced
We replaced the yearly SSL certificates for the Webmail (webmail.ups.edu), IMAP (imap.ups.edu), and POP3 (pop3.ups.edu) servers this morning. All these services are up an running and accepting connections.
[Resolved] VPN connections unavailable 3/24/09
Due to configuration errors at the Internet Service Provider (Integra Telecom), VPN connections were not working from 6:00 to 7:20 AM. The VPN has been restored.
1/24/2009 Alexandria antivirus upgrade
The academic file server Alexandria was found to have no antivirus installed. It had apparently been uninstalled last year during a period of performance problems, and not reinstalled. McAfee VSE was installed and an on-demand scan was initiated on the student folder, since there were some reports of infection in that folder.
Databases unavailable, 1/10/2009
Campus email text:
Saturday, January 10, Technology Services will be performing important updates on our database systems. There will be two groups of outages:
5 AM until 8 PM – Cascade and Cascade Web will be unavailable.
9 AM until Noon – Banner, Famis, Basis, and Millennium will be unavailable.
Email, network files and shares, and other network services will not be impacted.
Details:
Cascade database is switching to new hardware and upgrading to 10g. Administrative toolset is being upgraded to 10g and deployed on new hardware.
Banner, Famis, Basis, and Millennium will be patched to make them compatible with 10g.
November 24, 2008: CRM downtime, 6 am – 8 pm
CRM will be down from 6 am – 8 pm on Monday, November 24. The database instance will be patched then moved from Rainier to Grace.
New Storage Array and SAN Installation Complete 10/27/2008
The Installation of the new storage array and SAN to support upgrades of the database and email systems was completed with the reboots of all database servers from 5:30 to 6:30 AM this morning. CRM was restored at 7:45 AM. The extended timeframe was necessary to ensure that all existing and new LUNs had redundant paths to their hosts in the SAN.
