Temperature

  • Please put better ventilation in study rooms. It’s to(o) hot.
  • …Needs air-conditioning (too hot)
  • It’s way too hot in here!

Temperature is always hard to calibrate, and we’ve heard a lot of concern from you recently and in the past.

Facilites has explained to us that although they have done a lot of work to improve and update the HVAC system, the library building does have an exceptionally complex system, which makes it difficult to calibrate the temperature throughout the building. In fact, while we were receiving complaints about heat in the comment boxes, we received verbal complaints at the same time that it was too cold.

We’d suggest layering and picking your study areas to suit your needs depending on whether you run hot or cold. We’ve observed that the Reading Rooms and the Link are cooler places. We’d also suggest trying areas along brick walls and north walls (facing towards Kilworth Chapel) for cooler temperatures. The Learning Commons on the other hand is quite warm.

Please keep letting us know when you’re too uncomfortable however, and we’ll keep working with Facilities.
