  • Thank you for your patience as the maintenance window took longer than expected due to some unexpected issues which are now resolved. 

SYSTEMS IMPACTED:

  • PS-GuestAccess wireless network

REASON FOR MAINTENANCE: 

  • To ensure a secure, reliable computing environment, TS will be making routing changes to the PS-GuestAccess wireless network.

 

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

  • During the maintenance window, internet access on the PS-GuestAccess WiFi will be intermittently unavailable. 

  • The university wired network, PS-CampusAccess WiFi, and blue emergency towers should not be affected. 

  • If you experience connectivity issues on the PS-GuestAccess wireless network after the maintenance window is complete, please submit a ticket

{PUGETSOUND NETWORK}: Emergency Firewall Reboot, Friday April 12, 5:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. [COMPLETE]

Technology Services (TS) has planned the following maintenance activities. Details on the maintenance being performed are available below:

SYSTEMS IMPACTED: 

  • Inbound and outbound internet access 

  • GlobalProtect VPN 

  • Blue emergency towers 

  • Systems requiring Internet connectivity on the Puget Sound campus, such as Zoom phones

DATE OF IMPACT: 

  • Friday, April 12, 2024 | 5:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. [COMPLETE]

REASON FOR MAINTENANCE:

  • TS will be rebooting our network security appliances (firewalls) to apply a mitigation for a critical severity vulnerability affecting GlobalProtect.

  • The vendor states that fixes for this critical vulnerability are in development and are expected to be released by April 14, 2024. TS does not know the exact timing of when this will be made available. 

 

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

  • Impacted systems will be intermittently unavailable for short durations of time (~1-5 minutes) during the maintenance window.

  • Prior to April 15, TS expects to perform a firmware update as soon as possible pending the vendor’s release of a new version to fix the vulnerability. This work will be done without additional communication and will only take place between the hours of 12 a.m. and 6 a.m.

  • Security Services will remain reachable at 253-879-3311 during this time.

UPDATE:

  • 6/15/2023 at 9:30 p.m. – The scheduled network maintenance is now complete. Please report any issues to the Technology Service Desk.

REASON FOR IMPACT:

Technology Services (TS) will be performing critical maintenance to our campus firewalls in order to improve the security of our network. A firewall is a network security device that controls network access and traffic flows. For continued network functionality, it is important to perform maintenance on this key infrastructure component and move its operation to supported hardware and software.

SYSTEMS IMPACTED: 

  • External access to systems hosted on campus, such as myPugetSound and network shares, will be unavailable. 

  • All other systems requiring network connectivity on the Puget Sound campus such as physical phones and printers will be unavailable.

  • GlobalProtect VPN will be unavailable. 

  • Inbound and outbound internet access (WiFi and Ethernet) will be unavailable during the maintenance window. 

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Access to Canvas, email, Google Workspace, the university website (pugetsound.edu), and Zoom phone app will not be affected.

REASON FOR IMPACT: Our Internet Service Provider, K20, has scheduled a demand maintenance window beginning at 10 pm on 7/19/22 to 2 am on 7/20/22. K20 will perform a software upgrade on one of the K20 core routers in Seattle. Customers directly connected to this router will see 2 service interruptions of 10 to 15 minutes each.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

·         Internal campus networks and Wi-Fi will not be affected. Campus users will be able to access internal servers and services.
