Coziness: Getting there

More cozy, its near now, but it’s not cozy. Get some color, some bright art, some blankets…

We’re glad you think it’s getting closer!  We’re very excited to be working on exactly what you are asking for (apart from the blankets, which hadn’t occurred to us).

More color and art, though, are on their way, as our long-term plans for improvements will continue to include these aspects. Some are even scheduled for this summer. The most recent student art piece for display in the library was just chosen, and it’s really exciting and substantial, so keep an eye out for that, too!

Please let us know if there’s anything specific you’d like to see made cozier, but we plan to continue to make progress.

It is really hot in the library all the time

Puget Sound facilities staff are working very hard to find solutions to regulate the library’s temperature. Unfortunately, there isn’t a quick solution. The building was built in many sections over many years, and the sections are heated and cooled by separate systems.

Facilities is working hard to get these in sync, and ultimately to upgrade the HVAC. In the meantime, though, you may need to layer and/or move around the Library a bit to find your personal comfort zone.

Long Login Time

Why the heck does it take so long to log on to this computer?!

Several factors can affect log on time — age of the computer, size of your network profile, problems with the computer itself or problems with the network.  Please let us know when and which computer (they have numbers on top) is having the problems so we can tend to the matter.  Without knowing which specific machine it is difficult to diagnose the issue and fix it.

Hot Water Feedback

THANK YOU FOR THE HOT WATER! Pretty sure I’m not alone when I say thanks for keeping me awake 😉

You’re welcome. We’re glad you’re enjoying it! We are finding it pretty spiffy too. 🙂

Spring Break Surprise

Now that you’re back from spring break and, we hope, re-filling the library after a quiet week, we hope you’ll be glad to know that you can re-fill your tea mugs. The hot water tap you’ve asked for so often is at last available!

Head down to the lower level, make a right, and you’ll find it right ahead of you, across from the copy room and kittycorner from the drink machine. So sit down at the student lounge near the tap, drink your tea, and return to your work rejuvenated!

Turn the Heat Down

Please turn the heat down!

We have received many comments about the temperature in the Library.  Puget Sound facilities staff are working all the time to find solutions to the temperature fluctuations in the Collins Library.

Unfortunately, there is no simple solution. The building is comprised of many different sections that are heated and cooled by separate systems.

As part of the long range improvement plan, facilities intends to upgrade the HVAC in the Library – but in the meantime, we recommend that you be  prepared temperature fluctuations and to move around the Library a bit to find your personal comfort zone
