LIBRARY LOGGED: More Computer Science

More computer science books, please

We’d be happy to oblige! We are always buying books, and have been adding material in computer science consistently. But computer science is a big area. What areas of computer science in particular do you think need more of? Let us know in the comments, or email suggestions to your science liaison (rkuglitsch@puget…)!

LIBRARY LOGGED: Mobile Apps

The new set of mobile apps make things really easy to access at any time.

Thanks for letting us know you’re using them. As we keep adding mobile apps and sites, we’ll let you know about it on our mobile services page.

If you hear of any you’d like us to know about, leave us a comment!

LIBRARY LOGGED: Too warm

It’s too warm…

We continue to work with Facilities Services to keep the building at a steady and reasonable temperature.  Please continue to notify us if it is too warm or too cold and in what area of the building that is happening.

LIBRARY LOGGED: Second Floor Restroom

Regarding the window sealed with a padlock in the restroom on the 2nd floor: Can we unlock that window? I’d like some fresh air, please?

We’re definitely sympathetic to this request, but the window does need to stay closed for security reasons. When it was unlocked in the past, people succumbed to the temptation to throw things out the window (including library materials).

And, of course, windows that let things go out also let things come in. We’d prefer everyone entering the building do so during open hours through the front doors.  And we also suspect everyone who uses the restroom would prefer not being greeted by a visiting squirrel, bird, or raccoon!

LIBRARY LOGGED: Cannot print or open e-mail

The computers on campus won’t allow me to print  or open my Gmail or Puget Sound webmail.

From your description, it appears that there is a problem with your Puget Sound profile and not the computers themselves.  In order to fix any issues with your profile you need to contact the Technology Services Help Desk.  They can be reached via email: servicedesk@pugetsound.edu, via phone 253-879-8585 or in person in the lower floor of the library in the Tech Center (room 018)

LIBRARY LOGGED: The Spare Roll

Last fall, we asked students here at Collins Library how we could communicate better with them. One of their requests was to have even more issues of the News Flush. In answer to that request, we are proud to roll out The Spare Roll, which will be published between News Flushes.

So keep your eye out for The Spare Roll—coming soon to a restroom near you.

LIBRARY LOGGED: Printer table

A shelf on the side of the printer would be handy for storing completed papers when one has many to print.

We agree that a space to organize your papers is helpful.  However, we want to keep the area immediately around the printers clear for easier access to the machine when clearing paper jams, adding paper, etc.

We encourage you to use the desk space and table space already available next to the printers.

LIBRARY LOGGED: More doorways

I love working on the computers on the main floor. Keep the back door open (the dock) or have it swipeable!

Thanks! We’re so glad you like working on the main floor computers, and we appreciate knowing how you’d prefer to enter & leave the library. However, right now the back door is not accessible to library users because it goes through active staff work space and also for security reasons.

The back door doesn’t have gates or staff like the front of the library does. In order to take good care of our materials (and your tuition), we need to be sure that library materials stay secure.

For these reasons, we do need to keep it closed and unswipeable at this point.

I love working on the computers on the main floo. Keep the back door open (the dock) or have it swipeable!

LIBRARY LOGGED: Cheerful & Perky

  • The students at the circ desk always brighten my day. Especially when they ask me how I’m doing.
  • The circ desk workers make my day far more enjoyable because they are so helpful.
  • Thanks for the little perks during finals! Good publicity and great easy to use services.

We’re so glad that the students at the desk brighten your day! They’ve worked really hard to up their service year, so thanks for letting us, and them, know that their efforts are paying off.

We’re also glad you liked the finals perks, and hope they made things a little easier.

And on that note, congratulations on being done with finals! You’re awesome! Have a great break, and we’ll see you back in January with more answers to your questions & comments.

LIBRARY LOGGED: Wireless Printer Paper

Please check the wireless printers to see if you need to refill paper EVERYDAY. I feel like I spent 10 minutes a week requesting you to do your job.

We check these printers often, but a lot of printing happens at the library! For that reason,  we definitely appreciate it when you let us know that the wireless printers are out of paper. However, we understand it’s be a burden to do it a lot.

That’s why we’re pleased to let you know that we are now able to monitor the paper status in the wireless printers digitally, which will help us keep a better eye on the paper level during the day.  This should reduce the number of times you’d have to ask for a refill substantially.
