You should expand your film collection. It’s truly perplexing, a vast array of Japanese cinema and [the movie] 300…
Yes, I could see how it might be perplexing–that is quite a juxtaposition!
However, in the context of the library’s major responsibilities in collection, it begins to make more sense. Collins Library’s key mission is to support the academic programs here at the University of Puget Sound and collect books, movies, and journals that support the curriculum. For that reason, most film purchases are made at the request of a faculty member to support a specific class. You will definitely find feature films, because they’re used by classes in communications, in English, in foreign languages, and more, but we don’t have the resources to collect feature films that aren’t used by a class.
There are several possible avenues to find more films. You can:
- Search for a film in Puget Sound Worldcat, and place a Summit request.
- Check out Tacoma Public Library, whose Wheelock branch is just up the road and very welcoming to students.
- Browse our online holdings in Films on Demand, a streaming film series that includes documentaries and plays.
