Tips for Detection

  • The sender is attempting to impersonate a faculty and/or staff member at the university. Does this person work at the university? Is this a normal contact method you would reach them at?
  • The email asks you to use your personal email address to contact another purported colleague at their personal email address. Many phishing attempts may ask you to use your personal email or personal phone number.
  • Beware of offers that are too good to be true. With this particular scam, a fake moving company is generally created to collect funds to move the nonexistent piano.

Hello,

One of our colleagues (Eric Thompson) is downsizing and is seeking a caring place to donate his late father’s Piano (2000 Yamaha C3 6’1″ Grand).

If you’re interested in organizing a delivery with a moving company, kindly send a private email to Mr. Eric Thompson at eric_thompson[@]dallasmail[.]com

Best Regards
