Instagram scams have become increasingly elaborate as of late. One of the latest scams impersonates a very official-looking copyright claim form that prompts users to dispute a claim against their account, which then steals login information. This scam is extremely thorough — it pulls your username and a recently-posted image from your account, and even redirects to the official Instagram help documentation after it steals your login information.
Some good tips to avoid falling for scams like this:
- Always be wary of links in emails. Double-check the sender name and link address. Is the sender who you would expect? Does the site name look correct? Be extra careful of typos or the use of link shortening services like bit.ly.
- Enable 2FA. Even if you fall for a scam and give out your login information, the crooks can’t log in without your two-factor authentication code. This only works if you never give out your 2FA codes to anyone, even if they seem to be a tech support worker!
