In honor of this most auspicious occasion, members were asked to contribute a page to a 5th Anniversary book. Throughout the summer, we will be adding new images to showcase the 5th Year Celebration Book. The 5th year book project is coordinated by An Gates, PSBA Board member and lead curator of the 2015 exhibition team.

“I continue to enjoy exploring the combination of calligraphy with book arts. Creating an edition was time-consuming and tedious, but seeing it all come together was worth the effort. The steps in the evolving design process always surprise me, but the creative results keep me excited for the next project. Having an exchange with other artists for my book, was the bonus that made it all worthwhile.”

“My natural curiosity has resulted in an eclectic accumulation of bric-a-brac, memories, experiences, and books, all which in turn, inspire my art. With apologies to Rudyard Kipling, my intent is to design illustrated books for those “with ’satiable curtiosity.” Simple and sometimes unadorned, but thoughtfully creative book designs hide a treasury of illustrations within.”

“I was born in California and received my BFA from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. My work is a continuing investigation of the transitory nature of the human condition, our connection to each other and to the natural world. My portfolio includes works on paper, glass, mixed-media, and artist books. My other projects also include independent curatorial work, teaching workshops and lecturing.”

“My books are tributes to the Art of Procrastination. At times I am drawn to certain materials or techniques; sometimes I am inspired by a call for entry. My process is convoluted as I collect components for a finished product and think through possible problems for weeks, months and often times years before a book takes flight.”
