Tips for Detection

  • The sender is attempting to impersonate a cabinet member at the university by manipulating the display name. However, notice that the email address is not an @pugetsound.edu address.
  • Beware of offers that are too good to be true. Scammers frequently purport to give away valuable items such as cameras or instruments or tools along with a believable story.
  • With this type of phishing, the scammer typically corresponds with you then eventually asks you to send payment for alleged delivery or shipping via Venmo or Zelle or Paypal.
