Tips for Detection

  • Many phishing attempts request that you contact the scammer via another method of communication, such as text message or to a different email address than the sender.
  • Beware of offers that are too good to be true. With this particular scam, the scammer asks you to send payment via Venmo for the shipping fee of the non-existent item. Be wary of sending money via Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, etc unless you know the recipient.
  • Notice the odd inclusion of the phone number in the subject line and the note to take a screenshot of the email.
