A Purl of an Idea

As the first week of winter break came to an end, I found myself finishing and starting two knitting projects. The first was a reddish/marroonish scarf that took me 2 months to work on (oh boy).

Luckily, my dad and brother also knit (my dad actually makes beanies for people and he and my brother are now making bows) so I have a lot of resources to start projects that are free for me. I’ve been wanting to also make a nice headband for the winter, seeing that it has started to snow in Tacoma and I will need it for my return.

Knowing how to knit or crochet are fun ways to create winter accessories that are cheaper and more fulfilling than buying a 20 dollar sweater or 50 dollar scarf or 100 dollar hat (what has this world come to!?). You can learn how to knit on youtube or any website dedicated to the art of knitting.

Knitting is the new yoga (I saw that on a website) and it’s true! During the last couple of weeks before break, I used knitting as a stress relief. It’s healthy and rewarding and can be done anywhere! I do it in the car, on planes, in front of the TV, in the kitchen with light studying, etc. It’s also a nice way to get presents for family and friends during the holidays! This break and summer, knitting would be a great investment of time and money to learn and have on retainer for stressful or boring nights!

Update:

I have finished knitting the headband, I just need to sew it together, and I’ve now started knitting my mom a scarf. It’s easy and there are a million beautiful patterns you can use! I say get some yarn and needles from Michael’s whatever the closest craft shop is and watch Youtube tutorials!
