Inspiration for the Day

A friend of mine sent this video of spoken word poetry to me, and I immediately had to share it. The animation is beautiful, and the ending message is so inspiring. If you’ve got a few minutes to spare, watch the whole thing–though I doubt you’ll be able to stop watching once you start. (I myself shed a tear or two!)

Happy as a Clam?

The other day in my Communications class, we were discussing culture gaps and the barrier language can create. It was a really interesting and at times very funny discussion, as the examples my class comes up range from Modern Family to That 70s Show. Needless to say, it’s probably my favorite class.

Every student in the class has to give a presentation at one point during the semester that covers the material we’ve discussed in class that week. In these short presentations, the student picks a clip from a movie, show, or anything really, and explains what topics of the week are exemplified in the clip. One of this week’s presentations used this clip of the internet famous DJ Flula, who’s second language is English, from his on-going video series explaining why American idioms don’t make sense. The entire class (including my professor) thought it was hilarious. Had to share with you guys, enjoy!

Yabba Dabba… DON’T.

A New Friend

Met this guy on my way home from a little cafe off campus. His owners moved away three weeks ago and left him here, but he gets fed and cared for by the locals. Hopefully he’ll end up at the Seattle Humane Society, a no kill shelter up here. He’s absolutely so sweet, stuck his nose right in my camera lens! Had to share this picture.

New Core Requirement?

Do the Harlem Shake. LOGGER STYLE.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the Harlem Shake, it’s an Internet phenomenon that’s pretty much everywhere. (that’s really the only way I can think describe it, honestly) So, Puget Sound decided to get with the program. Man, I’m proud of my school.

Digital Thinking

As I told you guys before, I’m currently enrolled in a Digital Imaging class this semester, and we just finished our first project. Using Photoshop to create a digital drawing/painting, each student produced a piece depicting the relationship we have with technology in our world today. Some of them were pretty cynical, while others chose an outlook in support of our technology driven world. I was so impressed by all the work produced by the other students, as many of them chose not to use a tablet and created some awesome artwork using only the mouse. Some students took on an ambitiously realistic analog painting style, while others (like yours truly) went for a more simple cartoon-like style.

Here’s a few examples of the varying and thought-provoking works from some of the talented students in my class!

A humorous piece done by Dylan Harrington '14 titled "Abduction." Can you find the cleverly hidden Macklemore quote?

My own piece, depicting the friends one can only make through the imagination of video games!

This piece by Robin Wilson '14 titled "iSon of Man" takes an ironic twist in playing off of the famous "Son of Man" painting by René Magritte.

A pop-art inspired piece done by Dylan Harvey '15 featuring a reclining figure reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe.

Surprise Surprise

So, we took Louis to get neutered and were extremely surprised to find out that Louis actually needed to be spayed.

Yep, that’s right, Louis is in fact our little baby girl.

Not only do we feel bad because she’s drugged up from her surgery, but also because it’s easier for us to imagine her pain now! But now we have another girl in the house to have a good time with! Her name will still be Louis and now she’ll be calmer and even sweeter after the surgery! We’ll litter train her, and we even have a bunny play date with my friends’ bunny, Gilly. We’re excited for this news and we’re excited for a calm, sweet bunny who is also another strong female in the house!
