Monoprinting!

Just in time for Easter, I finished my first ever monoprint in my print making class! A monoprint is essentially a one of a kind print, done in a way that it can only be printed once (sometimes twice, this is called a “ghost print”). Creating a monoprint can be done by lots of different processes, with all sorts of materials. For my print, I chose to use screen printing. Screen monoprints can be done with TONS of different materials, so long as they’re water soluble–markers, charcoal, graphite, watercolor paint/pencils/crayons, and tons of other stuff to.

One of my very favorite mediums is watercolor, so I decided to use that for my monoprint. Here’s what my design looked like painted on my screen!

Once the paint was dry, I used transparent screen printing ink to print it. The first pull came out a little interesting… it printed the outlines of the water color because that was what dried first!

Since this is not quite what I had in mind for my print, I decided to pull a few ghost prints as well. The second one came out much better, I think! Definitely darker, at least, because the paint had time to loosen with the transparent ink soaking into it.

Just to experiment, I decided to pull a third print as well. It ended up being my favorite! I really like the way it came out. The details came through really well and although the colors are lighter, I like how soft they look.

I have two more prints to do for this assignment, so hopefully they’ll come out just as well! I’ll be sure to post them when they’re done. Frankly, I’m quite fawn’d of this print!

…wow I’m sorry that was horrible. Forgive me.
