Each floor has six rooms and is laid out according to the ten categories of the Dewey Decimal System: Social Sciences, Literature, Languages, History, Math & Science, General Knowledge, Technology, Philosophy, the Arts, and Religion. Each of the sixty exquisitely appointed rooms have been individually adorned with a collection of art and books relevant to one distinctive topic within the category of the floor it belongs to. LIVE GREEN CHALLENGE—Learning to live sustainably and responsibly! Collins Library is participating in LIVE GREEN CHALLENGE with a Sustainability display in the Ecommons area. Not only is there a live green tree to accentuate our focus, there are exciting reading suggestions (book covers featured) for each weekly focus: Energy Conservation; Waste Reduction; Transportation; Water Conservation. Find out how you can be a winner in the group energy conservation challenge (a percentage of the saved costs are donated to one of several charities)! Expand your knowledge through Check it Out at Collins Library and add your Sustainability Resolution (written on reused paper) to the Talkback Box in Ecommons. It’s time to Live Green Loggers!!
Ms. Bauermeister has her PhD from the University Washington and is the author of 500 Great Books by Women: A Reader’s Guide and Let’s Hear it for the Girls: 375 Great Books for Readers 2-14 and has also taught writing and English at the University of Washington. The School of Essential Ingredients is her first work of fiction and it has already been published in 19 countries. She describes the book: “It’s about food and people and the relationships between them – about taking those “unimportant” bits of life and making them beautiful..” The book has received an abundance of critical acclaim – Publisher’s Weekly described it as a remarkable debut. We are so fortunate to have this talented local writer with us on Thursday evening from 7 to 8 in room 020 Collins Memorial Library. Light refreshments will be served.
