{"id":351,"date":"2011-03-04T09:21:46","date_gmt":"2011-03-04T17:21:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.ups.edu\/technologyservices\/?p=351"},"modified":"2013-05-06T09:29:41","modified_gmt":"2013-05-06T16:29:41","slug":"ts-students-wow-town-hall-crowd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.pugetsound.edu\/technologyservices\/2011\/03\/04\/ts-students-wow-town-hall-crowd\/","title":{"rendered":"TS Students Wow Town Hall Crowd"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At a Technology Town Hall held March 2 in the Wheelock Student Center, members of the TS Student Staff presented demonstrations and information on exciting new technology initiatives with many benefits for Puget Sound students.<\/p>\n<p>First up was Joey Lange, a sophomore majoring in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/academics\/departments-and-programs\/undergraduate\/math-and-computer-science\/\">Computer Science<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/academics\/departments-and-programs\/undergraduate\/theatre-arts\/\">Theatre Arts<\/a> who works at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/about\/offices--services\/technology-services\/help--support\/\">Technology Service Desk<\/a>. Lange demonstrated a prototype of <a href=\"https:\/\/vdesk.pugetsound.edu\">vDesk<\/a>, the virtual desktop that will be rolled out to Puget Sound students in April. Using his Mac, Lange showed the range of software available through vDesk, from Microsoft Office to Adobe Photoshop.<\/p>\n<p>Jan Biernacke, a junior <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/academics\/departments-and-programs\/undergraduate\/biochemistry-and-molecular-bio\/\">Biochemistry<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/academics\/departments-and-programs\/undergraduate\/school-of-business--leadership\/\">Business Leadership<\/a> major working in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/about\/offices--services\/technology-services\/educational-technology\/\">educational technology<\/a>, provided a tour of <a href=\"http:\/\/soundnet.pugetsound.edu\">SoundNet<\/a>, the campus intranet. Among other things, she showed her personal <a href=\"http:\/\/soundnet.pugetsound.edu\/my\/default.aspx\">MySite<\/a> and the site she created for the Hui-O-Hawaii student group.<\/p>\n<p>Jinshil Yi, a sophomore majoring in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/academics\/departments-and-programs\/undergraduate\/politics--government\/\">Politics and Government<\/a> who works in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/academics\/departments-and-programs\/undergraduate\/music\/facilities\/electronic-music-studios\/\">music lab<\/a>, spoke about the planned implementation of a new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/about\/offices--services\/technology-services\/about-ts\/enterprise-information-systems\/erp\/\">Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)<\/a> system on campus. She detailed some of the many benefits students may see, including expanded options for degree planning and course registration as well as mobile apps for accessing grades, class schedules, and campus maps. <\/p>\n<p>TS staff William Morse, Mark Young, Cindy Riche, Steve Renker, and M.K.
