The Music Building joined the Puget Sound wireless network on May 26. Now School of Music students, faculty, and staff can access the network wire-free using logGers or logGers-secure.
System Maintenance Scheduled
TS conducts regular maintenance on the university’s computer systems to ensure a secure and reliable computing environment.
This month, we will perform maintenance on Sunday, May 31, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. All services may be unavailable from 8:00 AM to Noon, including e-mail, access to personal and departmental shares, Cascade, FAMIS, Millennium, and Banner. Additionally, Cascade, FAMIS, Millennium, and Banner may continue to be unavailable until 4:00 PM.

Help Hours Extended for Semester’s End
See the extended service hours posted by the HelpDesk and Tech Center Media Desk to assist the campus community during the reading period and finals (May 7-15, 2009).
Web, E-mail Domain Name Change
Effective Monday, April 27, the domain name for University of Puget Sound Web and e-mail addresses will change from ups.edu to pugetsound.edu. This change will be automatic, and ups.edu e-mail and Web addresses will continue to work.
Those who receive e-mail from Puget Sound addresses may want to update filters and safe sender lists.
TS Goes Green with Virtual Servers
TS is employing virtualization technology so just one server can host services that once required multiple machines. These “virtual servers” are a great way to reduce the power needed to run and cool physical servers.

Steps Taken to Block Conficker “April Fool’s Day” Worm
The Conficker computer worm is expected to activate April 1, 2009.
TS has taken steps to protect university-owned PC systems by installing the necessary Windows security patch and keeping McAfee VirusScan definitions current.
To protect your home systems, install all Windows high-priority updates and ensure McAfee VirusScan is installed and anti-virus definitions are current.
Password Synchronization is Here!
TS has enabled password synchronization, so now you can use one password to access several Puget Sound applications, including Cascade Web, Webmail, and Windows.
