Greenwood Promoted to TS Business Analyst

Congratulations to Alexis Greenwood ’10 on her promotion to TS Business Analyst! Alexis has served as Desktop Support Specialist at the Technology Service Desk since February 2012.

“I’ve enjoyed getting to know the campus community through the lens of the Service Desk, and I’ve learned an immense amount from helping people with their daily tech challenges,” Alexis notes. “Knowing how people work with the technology we have is essential to figuring out how we can help them. I think supporting the campus has been a great way to prepare for the challenges of my new role because I’ve built many good, trusting relationships and know I can build many more.”

When she isn’t helping folks with technology, Alexis can be found cooking, dancing, listening to music, or exercising. She also greatly enjoys friends, family, and travel.

Nelson Named Web and Database Developer

Peter Nelson ’13 has joined the Technology Services staff as Web and Database Developer. While a student at Puget Sound, Peter worked for TS, serving in various roles in Educational Technology, Media Services, and the Technology Service Desk. A native of Boise, ID, Peter is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys skiing, rock climbing, mountain biking, and various other activities.

Congratulations to Jessica Hartenstine!

Congratulations to Jessica Hartenstine on her promotion to Desktop Lifecycle Administrator! Jessica has worked as a Desktop Support Specialist in the TS Client Support team since February 2012.

In an announcement to TS staff, Client Support Manager Joel Arakaki wrote, “We are fortunate that Jessica’s professional interests aligned so well with our needs for this position. Jessica just completed her BAS degree in Information Technology and Administrative Management from Central Washington University. She brings experience administering the desktop lifecycle at UW Tacoma as well as here at Puget Sound and has already demonstrated a strong ability to master new technologies during her time as a member of the Client Support team. I look forward to the ideas and improvements that Jessica will bring to our desktop lifecycle management processes.”

Hiring for the Desktop Support Specialist position vacated by Jessica will begin immediately.

Service Desk Hours Extended as Semester Ends

As we approach the end of spring semester, hours at the Technology Service Desk in the lower level of Collins Memorial Library will be as follows:

Monday-Thursday, May 6-9, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Friday, May 10, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Saturday, May 11, noon to 4:00 p.m.
Sunday, May 12, noon to 10:00 p.m.
Monday-Thursday, May 13-16, 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Friday, May 17, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Summer hours for the Technology Service Desk will be 8:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Organizational Restructure Scheduled May 1 for TS

Chief Technology Officer William Morse has announced an organizational restructure for Technology Services effective May 1.

Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) and Network and Server Systems (NSS) will consolidate into one functional unit with a unified reporting structure. The directors of EIS and NSS will report to the new role of Deputy Chief Information Officer, Enterprise Information Services and Network and Server Systems, to be held by Travis Nation. Nation will continue to serve also as Director of the Project Management Office and Project Manager for Optimize Puget Sound.

There will be two additional title changes effective May 1. Chief Technology Officer will become Chief Information Officer, and Cindy Riche, Director of Client Support and Educational Technology Services, will become Deputy Chief Information Officer, Client Support and Educational Technology Services.

CTO Featured in Online Newspaper

William Morse, chief technology officer and associate vice president for technology services, is featured in the latest issue of The EvoLLLution, an online grassroots newspaper focused on the impact of non-traditional programs on higher education and society-at-large. Morse is interviewed on the role “Big Data” will play in higher education management and the biggest challenges facing the implementation of tools geared toward this end.

PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Module is Live!

PeopleSoft is now the university’s system of record for student information with today’s go-live of the Campus Solutions module. The term “go-live” is used to mark the point when a computer system goes into official use, usually after an extensive period of design, development, and testing.

The implementation of PeopleSoft is part of Optimize Puget Sound, a campus-wide project to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of university operations. See today’s campus message from President Thomas for more on this mission-critical project.

Faculty will now use PeopleSoft via the Faculty Center link in Cascade to complete Fall 2013 preregistration tasks, view Spring 2013 class rosters, and enter Spring 2013 final grades. Students will utilize PeopleSoft for Fall 2013 registration, which takes place the week of April 8, through the Student Center link in Cascade. Eventually, these “centers” will be accessed in a new portal, called myPugetSound, scheduled to replace Cascade later this year.

For the remainder of the Spring term, faculty will continue to use Cascade functionality for the student alert process and to access advisee information. Financial aid capabilities in PeopleSoft are scheduled to go live in April.
