New Connection Increases Campus Internet Bandwidth

On Saturday, February 7, Technology Services established a new 50 Mbps Internet connection to the Washington K-20 Educational Network.  This is the first in a three-phase implementation to enhance Internet connectivity for campus users.  The K-20 connection serves academic and administrative buildings. The 45 Mbps connection once shared by everyone on campus is now dedicated solely to residential users.

Further enhancements scheduled for installation by the end of spring break will increase the residential connection to 100 Mbps, and plans call for the expansion of wireless coverage to all residential spaces not currently covered, including residence halls, fraternity and sorority houses on Union Avenue, and Puget Sound-owned student houses, by the start of fall semester.
