{"id":746,"date":"2010-06-13T14:49:02","date_gmt":"2010-06-13T22:49:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.ups.edu\/studyingabroad\/?p=746"},"modified":"2010-06-13T14:49:02","modified_gmt":"2010-06-13T22:49:02","slug":"dublin-town-of-saints-and-sheep-and-lots-of-drugs-too","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.pugetsound.edu\/studyingabroad\/2010\/06\/13\/dublin-town-of-saints-and-sheep-and-lots-of-drugs-too\/","title":{"rendered":"Dublin: Town of Saints and Sheep, and lots of drugs too!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, that&#8217;s one of the first things I was told while sitting at orientation.\u00a0 Mind you, by the &#8220;Garda,&#8221; a local police officer.\u00a0 When I finally arrived in Dublin, it was\u00a0nearly 7\u00a0AM here and I still had a long day ahead of me.\u00a0 I\u00a0had to\u00a0meet\u00a0my program\u00a0advisors, catch a taxi (I&#8217;m pretty sure the guy drove in\u00a0circles for a bit to raise\u00a0the price!) drag my suitcase to the apartment, meet my new housemates and finally\u00a0organize everything.\u00a0\u00a0I only slept for about an hour total on the plane, and another 45 minute nap later that day.\u00a0 I woke up in the middle\u00a0of my nap\u00a0and couldn&#8217;t feel my arms, that&#8217;s how tired\u00a0my\u00a0body was!\u00a0\u00a0Two of my flatmates,\u00a0Kara and Jess, and I went shopping for\u00a0groceries and\u00a0whatnot.\u00a0 They&#8217;re pretty chill so far which is a plus!\u00a0 Our apartment is great as well (it&#8217;s almost as if it&#8217;s an American apartment\u00a0in Europe) which is awesome if you have any sort of European living experiences.\u00a0 We have\u00a0water pressure&#8230;hot water&#8230;a washer WITH a dryer, a\u00a0dish washer, a TV, internet, a printer.\u00a0 It&#8217;s AMAZING.\u00a0\u00a0Shhh, don&#8217;t tell the others on the program.\u00a0 They won&#8217;t be happy.\u00a0 Their kitchens and showers are tiny, they have no dishwashers or dryers, internet doesn&#8217;t work for some&#8230;I am counting my\u00a0blessings!\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42\u00a0\u00a0There have, however, been a few mishaps, if you will.\u00a0 Today I was wearing sandals on the way to Grafton\u00a0Street\/St. Steven&#8217;s\u00a0Green where I stepped on a broken\u00a0Heineken bottle and cut my foot!\u00a0 I had to limp all the way back to the apartment with a bloody\u00a0foot.\u00a0 It was\u00a0pretty\u00a0terrible.\u00a0 Of course, I always have some sort of, not to be too personal, but, feminine product on me.\u00a0 That came in handy between my sandal and the cut.\u00a0 Good thing I&#8217;m ingenious like that!\u00a0 And humble, too!\u00a0\u00a0Not only did this happen today, but it was really rainy too, for the first time since we&#8217;ve been here (it&#8217;s been 4 days).\u00a0 I\u00a0expected it to be rainy all the time, but it&#8217;s not.\u00a0 Thankfully.\u00a0 Another fun little thing that happened today was the power shortage that we brought upon ourselves.\u00a0 As soon as I know it,\u00a0my housemate accidentally ended up making all the power go out\u00a0upstairs, including the fridge!\u00a0 So we had to call our RA (againnnn), Eammon, to help us figure out what to do.\u00a0 With\u00a0a few pushes of some buttons, we were back up and\u00a0running, thank\u00a0God.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We did have a little &#8220;family dinner&#8221; tonight, a wonderful way to\u00a0wrap up the day.\u00a0 Spaghetti\u00a0and vino,\u00a0cooked by the housemate!\u00a0 How\u00a0cute,\u00a0ate by candle light.\u00a0 Classy at worst.\u00a0 Anyways, I have to go to sleep now, I am starting my internship tomorrow at Trinity College.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be working\u00a0with psychologists, a lawyer, an OT and\u00a0some other professionals and interns at the\u00a0Anti-Bullying Centre doing psychological research!\u00a0 I&#8217;m\u00a0very excited, but nervous too.\u00a0 I bought some nice clothes at H&amp;M for it today, so that makes me feel more prepared.\u00a0 I may also get to take part\u00a0in, and at the very least, observe some psychological assessments and hopefully counseling.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll update about all that for\u00a0sure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So, that&#8217;s one of the first things I was told while sitting at orientation.\u00a0 Mind you, by the &#8220;Garda,&#8221;
