{"id":4609,"date":"2012-11-27T05:04:58","date_gmt":"2012-11-27T13:04:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.ups.edu\/studyingabroad\/?p=4609"},"modified":"2012-11-27T05:04:58","modified_gmt":"2012-11-27T13:04:58","slug":"do-hamburgers-eat-hamburgers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.pugetsound.edu\/studyingabroad\/2012\/11\/27\/do-hamburgers-eat-hamburgers\/","title":{"rendered":"Do Hamburgers eat hamburgers?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, I taught 5 Thanksgiving lessons.\u00a0 Meaning, I taught the same lesson five times.\u00a0 Three times on Tuesday, each class back-to-back.\u00a0 That was a little surreal.\u00a0 All of my classes thought Americans give gifts on Thanksgiving, which I find to be a really strange idea.\u00a0 Gift-giving is for birthdays and Christmas!\u00a0 Fabian, one of my roommates, thought the same, and so I asked him why.\u00a0 He thought we <em>gave<\/em> each other presents, and then <em>thanked<\/em> each other for giving gifts.\u00a0 Hence, &#8220;Thanksgiving&#8221;.\u00a0 I suppose I can understand the logic of that.<\/p>\n<p>Making a Thanksgiving Tree is a family tradition, one which I shared with my classes.\u00a0 I cut leaves (probably close to two-hundred!) out of colored construction paper, and a tree trunk with bare branches.\u00a0 We taped the tree up the wall, and then each student wrote something he or she was thankful for on his or her leaf.\u00a0 Each student had one leaf, and taped it up somewhere on the tree.\u00a0 That way, we &#8220;grew&#8221;
