{"id":3298,"date":"2012-06-07T15:32:03","date_gmt":"2012-06-07T23:32:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.ups.edu\/studyingabroad\/?p=3298"},"modified":"2012-06-07T15:32:03","modified_gmt":"2012-06-07T23:32:03","slug":"arrival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.pugetsound.edu\/studyingabroad\/2012\/06\/07\/arrival\/","title":{"rendered":"Arrival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So after the airline almost lost my reservation (which was miraculously found again once Mom went into Rage-Mode), and almost missing a connecting flight in Bangkok because I accidentally spent a long time standing in a ticketing line clearly marked &#8220;Children\/Disabled\/Monks&#8221; (duh!), I was finally able to relax.\u00a0 And by relax, I mean I went and taught my first 2-hour Media-Arts class.<\/p>\n<p>It actually wasn&#8217;t too bad.\u00a0 The students were hilarious, and it was fairly relaxed.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be helping them edit video for various video journalism projects.\u00a0 Their projects will be broadcast to the other classrooms during school hours.\u00a0 I&#8217;m pretty excited for this, as it is way more involved than my high school media arts program was.<\/p>\n<p>The Prince Royal&#8217;s College campus is amazing.\u00a0 Its a K-12 school, of 6,000 students, which is larger than my high school and college combined.\u00a0 The facilities are very nice, and the school provides students with a lot of opportunities, like foreign exchange programs to sister schools.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a view from my temporary apartment.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3303\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.pugetsound.edu\/studyingabroad\/files\/2012\/06\/IMG_5067.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.pugetsound.edu\/studyingabroad\/files\/2012\/06\/IMG_5067.jpeg 640w, https:\/\/blogs.pugetsound.edu\/studyingabroad\/files\/2012\/06\/IMG_5067-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.pugetsound.edu\/studyingabroad\/files\/2012\/06\/IMG_5067-624x416.jpeg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The humidity is unreal.\u00a0 It has been difficult to feel professional during my meetings with fellow employees and the students, as my face has been producing A RIVER of sweat.\u00a0 Also, I did some foolish packing.\u00a0 There are some items that I realize now that I will never wear.\u00a0 For example, I thought a heavy duty rain jacket would be helpful for the rainy season\u2026.to keep me dry, right?
