The leaves have changed color and the temperature has dropped. Fire places have been lit and blankets have been bought. October is the month of Homecoming and Halloween; the month of pumpkins and hot cider. But what was October like one hundred years ago? In 1916, the University of Puget Sound was the College of Puget Sound that had a bustling 170 students \u2026 \u201cNever in the history of the instruction has there been such a large attendance at any one time.\u201d At around this time, too, athletics were being introduced to the school, football being the main sport. A tradition no longer recognized was the Bean Feed. According to <a href=\"http:\/\/soundideas.pugetsound.edu\/thetrail_all\/122\/\">The Trail<\/a>, \u201ceveryone was there\u201d and \u201cthe freshmen were well represented and what they liked best was sugar on doughnuts,\u201d so, really, not much has changed.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/academics\/academic-resources\/collins-memorial-library\/archives\/\">Archives &amp; Special Collections<\/a> is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12:00-3:00 p.m. or by appointment.<\/p>\n<p><em>By Sierra Scott<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s October 2016.
