{"id":562,"date":"2010-04-19T08:20:49","date_gmt":"2010-04-19T16:20:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.ups.edu\/collinsunbound\/?p=562"},"modified":"2010-04-19T08:20:49","modified_gmt":"2010-04-19T16:20:49","slug":"and-the-winners-are","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.pugetsound.edu\/collinsunbound\/and-the-winners-are\/","title":{"rendered":"And the Winners Are!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-563    alignleft\" style=\"margin-left: 8px;margin-right: 8px\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.pugetsound.edu\/collinsunbound\/files\/2010\/04\/2winners.jpg\" alt=\"2winners\" width=\"208\" height=\"208\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.pugetsound.edu\/collinsunbound\/files\/2010\/04\/2winners.jpg 278w, https:\/\/blogs.pugetsound.edu\/collinsunbound\/files\/2010\/04\/2winners-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 208px) 100vw, 208px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to Andrew Fink and Dylan Poulsen, winners of the Book Collecting Contest.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Fink, a senior majoring in philosophy, is the first place winner.\u00a0 The title of his essay was &#8220;An Interdisciplinary Survey of 20th Century Propaganda&#8221;. \u00a0Andrew \u2018s collection focused on political language and political theory and he has been working \u00a0on assembling the books for about seven years. \u00a0This collection on propaganda \u00a0includes books from literary fiction, pamphlets, art books, books on philosophy and newspaper articles. \u00a0The books cover the disciplines of philosophy and political science, history and sociology, and art and literature.\u00a0 Andrew received a check for $1000 from the Book Club of Washington, and his winning entry will be submitted to the National Book Collecting Contest this spring.<\/p>\n<p>Dylan Poulson, also a senior majoring in mathematics, \u00a0won the second prize of $500 for his collection, \u201cKnowing Nature.\u201d\u00a0 His collection grew out of his own interest of understanding how others understand, order and connect with nature.<\/p>\n<p>The aim of the competition was to encourage undergraduate students at University of Puget Sound to read for enjoyment and to develop personal libraries throughout their lives, to appreciate the special qualities of printed or illustrated works, and to read, research, and preserve the collected works for pleasure and scholarship.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The award was sponsored by the Book Club of Washington, a nonprofit organization of book lovers and collectors who has a special interest in collecting and preserving printed materials.\u00a0 It is a goal of the club to support a new generation of collectors with awards and recognition of their collecting accomplishments.\u00a0 The club held its annual meeting on April 18<sup>th<\/sup>, where the University of Puget Sound and all 18 students were recognized for their achievement.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to all the students who participated in the contest.\u00a0 Plans are already underway for next year\u2019s contest!<\/p>\n<p>Jeffery Arbios &#8217;11 <em>The Impact of an Idea: Lord of the Rings<\/em><br \/>\nAndrew Barker &#8217;10 <em>My Martha Stewart Complex: Cooking, Landscaping &amp; Architecture in the Pacific Northwest<\/em><br \/>\nSandra Bryant &#8217;12 <em>Magical Fantasy Collection<\/em><br \/>\nEpiphany Couch &#8217;10 <em>For Love of the Bicycle<\/em><br \/>\nLisa Demopulos &#8217;11 <em>Romance<\/em><br \/>\nSabrina Duncan &#8217;12 <em>Marine Life<\/em><br \/>\nHelen Edwards &#8217;13 <em>Beyond Harry Potter<\/em><br \/>\nAndrew Fink &#8217;10 <em>An Interdisciplinary Survey of 20th Century Propaganda<\/em><br \/>\nAdriana Flores &#8217;13 <em>Not Your Average Sunday Comics<\/em><br \/>\nEleanor J.
