Several of the library\u2019s artist books were featured at the Write@253<\/a> Open House on June 21st<\/sup>.\u00a0 The brightly colored creative space opened on MLK Way in downtown Tacoma to share its upcoming writing workshops, creative publishing opportunities, and tutoring programs for children and adults.<\/p>\n

Recent graduate Olivia Weitz shares her passion for writing and reading with the Tacoma community through the center.\u00a0 Her initiative allowed the collection of artist books to be a part of Tacoma\u2019s Third Thursday Arts Walk and to be shared with the Tacoma community.<\/p>\n

Visit the Write@253<\/a> web site and learn more about this innovative program.\u00a0 A statement from the website provides insight into the programs:\u00a0 \u201cWrite@253\u00a0grew out of conversations between high school and college writing teachers, counselors and staff at an annual writing workshop one Saturday afternoon in May 2011 at Tacoma Community College. Many of us were frustrated by the lack of support for innovative and creative writing instruction and experiences in public education, especially in our struggling schools.
