Doyle is the author of twelve books: six collections of essays, two nonfiction books (<em>The Grail<\/em>, about a year in an Oregon vineyard, and <em>The Wet Engine<\/em>, about hearts), two collections of \u201cproems,\u201d the short story collection <em>Bin Laden\u2019s Bald Spot<\/em>, and the sprawling Oregon novel <em>Mink River<\/em>. Doyle\u2019s books have five times been finalists for the Oregon Book Award, and his essays have appeared in <em>The Atlantic Monthly, Harper\u2019s, Orion<\/em>, <em>The American Scholar<\/em>, and in newspapers and magazines around the world. His essays have also been reprinted in the annual <em>Best American Essays<\/em>, <em>Best American Science &amp; Nature Writing,<\/em> and <em>Best American Spiritual Writing<\/em> anthologies.
