Open Stacks and More!<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are so pleased to share some updates on our Collins Library collections, spaces, and services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Mark Monday,\u00a0August 9!\u00a0<\/strong> We will be reopening our library\u00a0stacks\u00a0on\u00a0all floors for our users.\u00a0If you have\u00a0missed the serendipitous\u00a0discoveries made\u00a0through browsing, the\u00a0stacks await you!<\/li>
  2. Hold Requests:\u00a0<\/strong> If you have enjoyed having your books ready for pick up in the front of the library, we are retaining this great service.\u00a0 You still can request\u00a0books\u00a0through PRIMO and request a pick up at the Library.\u00a0 Just note that as of August 9, the books will be available at the front circulation desk and will be checked out to you at that point, so please remember to bring your Logger\u00a0or other photo ID with you.<\/li>
  3. HathiTrust Emergency Temporary\u00a0Access Service (ETAS) ends\u00a0on August 9<\/strong>:\u00a0 When our stacks were closed and so\u00a0many of our students were studying remotely, we activated ETAS in our HathiTrust subscription, which made over 160,000 print titles available in digital form to University of Puget Sound faculty, staff and students.\u00a0 As we resume providing full\u00a0access to the print collection, the conditions for the fair use of digital copies of these materials has ended.\u00a0 Note that the University of Puget Sound remains a HathiTrust member, and you may log in to HathiTrust using your institutional login and password to access and download full PDFs of materials in the public domain or licensed under Creative Commons.\u00a0 Please contact your liaison librarian with any questions.<\/li>
  4. There will be some reconfiguration of spaces on the first floor of the library:<\/strong>
    —<\/span><\/strong> The new Faculty Development Center will be located\u00a0in the space\u00a0adjacent to the East\u00a0Reading Room.
    —<\/span><\/strong> <\/span><\/strong>The space that used to be the Mac Lab will be updated to serve as a collaboration and meeting space, with a focus on student use.\u00a0 We have been fortunate\u00a0to receive a grant\u00a0from the Washington State Library to help update this space.\u00a0
    —<\/span><\/strong> Open print reserves will be relocated at the north end of the Learning Commons.<\/li>
  5. A reminder about OCR for Canvas:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Nick Triggs is our library contact for OCR for Canvas and you can\u00a0find details of the request process here:\u00a0\u00a0https:\/\/research.pugetsound.edu\/OCR_for_Canvas<\/a>. Since June, Nick has digitized and\/or OCR-processed over six dozen requests from faculty for articles and book chapters, and has sent links for the many materials the library already owns in electronic format!\u00a0 Please continue to use this service to help make digital materials more accessible in Canvas for our students!<\/li>
  6. Open Education Resources Institute\/American Association of Colleges & Universities:<\/strong>\u00a0 Over the summer,\u00a0Collins Library formed a team, led by Scholarly Communications and Digital Services Librarian Ben Tucker,\u00a0to participate in this important national discussion.\u00a0 Thanks are extended to Prof.\u00a0Heidi Morton, Prof.\u00a0Melvin Rouse, and Educational Technologist\u00a0Margot Casson for joining Ben and Library Director\u00a0Jane\u00a0Carlin\u00a0to raise awareness of and to promote OER at Puget Sound.\u00a0 You will be hearing from us!\u200b<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
