{"id":10220,"date":"2018-04-10T10:00:21","date_gmt":"2018-04-10T17:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.pugetsound.edu\/collinsunbound\/?p=10220"},"modified":"2018-04-10T10:18:47","modified_gmt":"2018-04-10T17:18:47","slug":"collins-library-links-celebrating-libraries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.pugetsound.edu\/collinsunbound\/collins-library-links-celebrating-libraries\/","title":{"rendered":"Collins Library Links: Celebrating Libraries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-4643 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.pugetsound.edu\/collinsunbound\/files\/2013\/09\/2013_CollinsLibraryLink.jpg\" alt=\"2013_CollinsLibraryLink\" width=\"600\" height=\"114\" \/><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px; text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Celebrating Libraries<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>This week Collins Library joins libraries nationwide in celebrating the many ways libraries, and library staff, lead their communities through the transformative services, programs, collections, and expertise they offer.\u00a0 April 8-14 is National Library Week, an annual celebration of the value of libraries.\u00a0 Libraries are creative and engaging centers where students, faculty, and staff\u00a0can collaborate and be inspired to develop their skills and passions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, April 10 is <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/ala-apa.org\/nlwd\/\">National Library Workers Day<\/a>, a day to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library staff. #nlwd18.\u00a0 It\u2019s a chance to say thank you to library staff who alter their work day to ensure we have 24\/7 coverage, who take on new and challenging work such as the Makerspace to inspire students, who spend hours in and out of the classroom with students to ensure they find the materials they need, and for the many rush orders fulfilled.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Check out these statistics associated with our library:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/academics\/academic-resources\/collins-memorial-library\/about-collins\/library-statistics-by-month\/\">https:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/academics\/academic-resources\/collins-memorial-library\/about-collins\/library-statistics-by-month\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Remember you can sign up for RSS feeds to receive updates of the most recently added materials:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/academics\/academic-resources\/collins-memorial-library\/new-resources\/new-titles-at-collins-library-2\/\">https:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/academics\/academic-resources\/collins-memorial-library\/new-resources\/new-titles-at-collins-library-2\/<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, we are hosting several events that celebrate libraries and reading:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday April 12:<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Artists\u2019 Books and Social Justice:<\/strong>\u00a0 Marshall Weber, social activist and book artist, will share information on Booklyn, a cooperative dedicated to promoting social justice through unique publications. <strong>Archives:\u00a0 11:30 \u2013 12:30<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Poetry Reading by Glenna Jackson.<\/strong>\u00a0 Glenna Jackson will read from her first full-length poetry collection, <em>Thresholds<\/em>.\u00a0 She holds a B.A. in English Literature and, while at Puget Sound, she won the <strong>Hearst Essay Prize for the Humanities<\/strong> and the <strong>Nixeon Civille Handy Prize for Poetry.\u00a0 Archives:\u00a0 2:00 \u2013 3:00<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday April 23:<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Presentation on the recently published\u00a0<em>Home Team: The Turbulent History of the San Francisco Giants<\/em> by author Rob Garrett.\u00a0 <\/strong>Welcome back <strong>Robert F. Garratt.\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Garratt<\/strong> is emeritus professor of English and humanities and has published books and articles on modern Irish literature, including the recent <em>Trauma and History in the Irish Novel: The Return of the Dead<\/em>.
