I hear this all the time and I&#8217;m here to tell you&#8230;<strong>it\u2019s not true<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInternships\u201d come in all varieties: for-credit, not-for-credit; paid, unpaid. The word \u201cinternship\u201d has simply become a popular label for career-related experience\u2014internships may also be masked as part-time jobs or volunteer experiences. The key is that you are able to gain short-term, meaningful experience in an area of career interest.<\/p>\n<p>And while it\u2019s important to pursue career-related experience (aka internships) regardless of whether it\u2019s paid or unpaid, for credit or not, there\u2019s benefit in doing internships for academic credit.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.pugetsound.edu\/cesblogs\/category\/internship-spotlight\/\" target=\"_blank\">Many Puget Sound students find paid internships and elect to take those internships for credit.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are only three steps to prepare for an internship for credit:<!--more--><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Find an internship\u2014you should have the internship lined up before you try to register (<strong>Hint<\/strong>: while you have until the add-drop deadline, lining up your internship can take some time, so don&#8217;t put it off too long.) You can start your search with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/about\/offices--services\/ces\/students\/building-experience\/internships\/nic-internship-link\/\" target=\"_blank\">InternshipLink<\/a> in Cascade, <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.pugetsound.edu\/cesblogs\/2011\/01\/20\/on-your-mark\/\" target=\"_blank\">but don\u2019t stop there<\/a>! And if you need help finding and applying for positions, CES can help.<\/li>\n<li>Complete the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/about\/offices--services\/ces\/students\/building-experience\/internships\/\">required paperwork<\/a> to register for the internship class (<strong>Hint<\/strong>: there are prerequisites to doing the internship for credit, so look closely.)<\/li>\n<li>Submit your paperwork to CES, in Howarth 101.\u00a0 (<strong>Hint<\/strong>: CES typically has drop-in hours during registration week to specifically address internship questions.)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Here\u2019s what others have had to say about the experience:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Being able to combine my academic experience with a workplace environment has proved to be really interesting.
