From career exploration&#8230;to higher GPAs&#8230;to being more highly sought after by employers once you graduate.<\/p>\n<p>In celebration of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/about\/offices-services\/ces\/career-events\/student-employment-month\/\">Student Employment Month<\/a>, we invite you to <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.pugetsound.edu\/cesblogs\/2012\/04\/26\/why-work-during-college\/\">consider your college jobs<\/a>. What did you like, dislike, and learn from each experience?<\/p>\n<p>At a recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/about\/offices-services\/ces\/career-events\/weekly-table\/\">CES Weekly Table<\/a>, some of you shared your thoughts about your work experience. Your observations are insightful and sometimes hilarious:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job:<\/strong> Coaching Sports<br \/>\n<strong>Liked:<\/strong> Flexibility with summer time<br \/>\n<strong>Disliked: <\/strong>Dealing with small children\/teenagers!<br \/>\n<strong>Learned: <\/strong>Time management<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job:<\/strong> Information Center Assistant<br \/>\n<strong>Liked:<\/strong> Everything. My boss, my co-workers, the environment&#8230;<br \/>\n<strong>Disliked: <\/strong>That I&#8217;m graduating and can&#8217;t do it next year.<br \/>\n<strong>Learned: <\/strong>How to work in a team, communicate effectively, provide great customer service, and behave in a professional manner<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job:<\/strong> Church Pianist\/Organist<br \/>\n<strong>Liked:<\/strong> Student-friendly hours\u2014weekends and week nights<br \/>\n<strong>Disliked: <\/strong>Nothing!<br \/>\n<strong>Learned: <\/strong>It pays to practice your instrument!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job:<\/strong> Campus Tour Guide<br \/>\n<strong>Liked:<\/strong> Meeting prospective students<br \/>\n<strong>Disliked: <\/strong>Sometimes there are no tours scheduled, so I don&#8217;t get paid.<br \/>\n<strong>Learned: <\/strong>Communication\/interview skills<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job:<\/strong> OT\/PT Assistant<br \/>\n<strong>Liked:<\/strong> Working with kids<br \/>\n<strong>Disliked: <\/strong>Working with kids<br \/>\n<strong>Learned: <\/strong>On the balance, I don&#8217;t like working with kids.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job:<\/strong> Library Circulation Desk<br \/>\n<strong>Liked:<\/strong> The people I work with<br \/>\n<strong>Disliked: <\/strong>Working early shifts<br \/>\n<strong>Learned: <\/strong>It&#8217;s my first job, so I&#8217;ve learned a lot, but mainly that I can succeed in the workplace.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job:<\/strong> Caddy<br \/>\n<strong>Liked:<\/strong> It was chill.<br \/>\n<strong>Disliked: <\/strong>Nothing<br \/>\n<strong>Learned: <\/strong>How to caddy<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job:<\/strong> Catering<br \/>\n<strong>Liked:<\/strong> Co-workers and free food<br \/>\n<strong>Disliked: <\/strong>The outfits<br \/>\n<strong>Learned: <\/strong>Customer service<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job:<\/strong> Farm Assistant<br \/>\n<strong>Liked: <\/strong>Working in the field<br \/>\n<strong>Disliked: <\/strong>It was really hot in Grandview Idaho last summer.<br \/>\n<strong>Learned: <\/strong>The importance of hard work<\/p>\n<p>So, what have you gained through <em>your<\/em> work roles? If your knee-jerk response is &#8220;nothing,&#8221; pause to reconsider.
