Welcome to 2014! We hope you thoroughly melted into the bliss of Winter Break, complete with delicious food, rest, and relaxation\u2014the best way to begin a New Year!<\/p>\n

As you launch into spring semester\u2014filled with new textbooks and classes, outdoor adventures in the mountains and on campus\u2014many of you will also be inspired by new and renewed goals, dreams, and resolutions to commence alongside Puget Sound life. As you think about the year ahead, consider adding career resolutions to your list.<\/p>\n

\"Obvious?\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Resolution #1:<\/i><\/b> Know what you’re doing and where you’re going. Talk with a CES Career Advisor.<\/i><\/p>\n

Sometimes the obvious doesn’t seem so obvious. Be sure to visit CES to ask any burning questions related to your job search and career journey. We’re here to connect you to the best opportunities, alumni, events, and career advice possible!<\/p>\n

Resolution #2:<\/b> Review the <\/i>Interviewing Tips Packet<\/i><\/a> <\/i>and set up an hour-long mock interview with CES.<\/i><\/p>\n

Interviews play an integral role in any job or internship search. To stand out in an interview, learn how to fully prepare beforehand, and then get plenty of practice.<\/p>\n

A common misconception is that interviewers are secretly asking \u201ctrick questions\u201d when in fact they’re simply trying to get to know you and determine whether or not you’d be a good fit for their organization. Your advance preparation will help ensure that your responses set you apart from other candidates.<\/p>\n

\"Avoid<\/a><\/p>\n

Resolution #3: <\/b>Avoid \u201cLast-Minute Panic.\u201d Start your application materials now!<\/i><\/p>\n

Inspiration to write a resume and cover letter may be hard to muster. Last-minute panic is easy for hiring managers to spot on applications. It’s also easy to spot applications that have had lots of time and effort poured into them. By starting now, instead of at the end of April, you’ll save yourself from unnecessary panic as the academic year comes to a close.<\/p>\n
