Get started. You&#8217;ll see the payoff in a less stressful senior year.<\/p>\n<p>And if this is your final year, your process will be more condensed\u2014it may also be more hectic\u2014but don&#8217;t slip into denial and delay further. Starting today will still be much easier than starting next May.<\/p>\n<p>But don\u2019t just take our word for it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When the Puget Sound Class of 2011 was on the verge of graduating, we asked them to share their advice with incoming students<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n\u201cStart trying careers out as <em>early<\/em> as possible through internships, part-time jobs, etc. Even if what you do doesn&#8217;t turn out to be something you are passionate about, you&#8217;ll still gain valuable skills, knowledge, and connections from the experience.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is surprising how fast senior year arrives and how you can feel totally unprepared for interviews and job searching without the help and assistance of CES. Go <em>early<\/em>, go often.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMeet with CES advisors <em>early<\/em> on to learn which services are available, look through the CES library to explore career options, and have a polished resume ready to go even if you don&#8217;t think you will need it in the near future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUtilize the resources that are offered by CES. Be prepared that you will have to do a great deal of searching and networking by yourself. They can guide you, but they don\u2019t do it for you. So start <em>early<\/em>. (Start NOW.)\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStart <em>early<\/em>. The CES resources are excellent and given four years to build contacts\/references, and job\/internship experience you will come out delectably employable. I wish I had started sooner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>It doesn\u2019t have to be a huge leap\u2026baby steps are completely acceptable. Here are 3 things you can do this week to get started:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Peruse the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/about\/offices--services\/ces\/\">CES website<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/cascade.pugetsound.edu\/cascade\/CESResources.main\">CES resources on Cascade<\/a> to familiarize yourself with what\u2019s available.<\/li>\n<li>Drop by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/about\/offices--services\/ces\/career-events\/weekly-table\/\">CES Weekly Table<\/a> in the SUB on Wednesday to meet CES staff members\u2014and participate in trivia for prizes!<\/li>\n<li>Mark your calendar for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/about\/offices--services\/ces\/career-events\/ask-night\/\">ASK Night<\/a> on September 15 to meet <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/about\/offices--services\/ces\/career-events\/ask-night\/ask-night-attendees\/\">alumni<\/a> in person and get even more excellent advice from beyond the verge.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now get started!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a9 2011 Career and Employment Services, University of Puget Sound<br \/>\nPhoto: Kris Hay<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Graduation isn\u2019t as far away as it seems.
