{"id":154,"date":"2018-05-09T20:51:12","date_gmt":"2018-05-09T20:51:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.pugetsound.edu\/art\/?p=154"},"modified":"2018-05-09T21:12:36","modified_gmt":"2018-05-09T21:12:36","slug":"celebration-and-commencement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.pugetsound.edu\/art\/2018\/05\/09\/celebration-and-commencement\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebration and Commencement"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><strong>Celebration and Commencement<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><em>If art is to nourish the roots of our culture, society must set the artist free to follow his [her\/their] vision wherever it takes him [her\/them].\u00a0 We must never forget that art is not a form of propaganda; it is a form of truth.\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 -John F. Kennedy<\/p>\n<p>These wise words were part of JFK\u2019s commencement speech at Amherst College in 1963.\u00a0 They were uttered in this season of transition, of closing one chapter and commencing the next.
