Time for another poem! This time the assignment was to write about a significant person. See if you can guess what “person” I chose! (;<\/p>\n

At Four Years Old I Found a Friend<\/em><\/p>\n

When I let myself in<\/p>\n

from [the] cold [light]<\/p>\n

[of] 3am stars<\/p>\n

with an empty chest<\/p>\n

and a doubting mind,<\/p>\n

[your] reassurance<\/p>\n

is silent and warm<\/p>\n

and your tolerance<\/p>\n

for my heavy forehead<\/p>\n

against yours<\/p>\n

is admirable.<\/p>\n

Your unspoken<\/p>\n

intelligence<\/p>\n

and steady [memory]<\/p>\n

almost make me glad<\/p>\n

you can\u2019t repeat<\/p>\n

what I tell you.<\/p>\n

I can\u2019t imagine<\/p>\n

what you\u2019d say if<\/p>\n

you [could] speak,<\/p>\n

but it\u2019s lucky for me<\/p>\n

that you\u2019re an<\/p>\n

unmatched listener<\/p>\n

with a bed time<\/p>\n

as late as mine.<\/p>\n

I [never] thought<\/p>\n

that in the [fade] of winter<\/p>\n

I\u2019d miss finding<\/p>\n

dog hair<\/p>\n
