The Times Literacy Supplement wrote about the book:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">The individual studies constantly please the reader with wit, stimulate with imagination, move him to admiration by their original thinking, and by the excellence of their writing.\u00a0 ( Book Jacket)<\/p>\n<p>Published\u00a0 first in 1951, this book is an early work of non fiction of the author who went on to write such well known works as <em>Travels with my Aunt<\/em>,\u00a0 <em>Brighton Rock<\/em>, and <em>The Quiet American<\/em>. Much of his work reflected his <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" style=\"margin-left: 5px;margin-right: 5px\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/9\/91\/Graham_Greene%27s_Birthplace_blue_plaque_crop.jpg\/731px-Graham_Greene%27s_Birthplace_blue_plaque_crop.jpg\" alt=\"File:Graham Greene's Birthplace blue plaque crop.jpg\" width=\"204\" height=\"167\" \/>Catholic upbringing and explored moral and social issues.\u00a0 The author of more than fifty books during a sixty-year career, Graham Greene (1904\u20131991) unquestionably ranks among the twentieth century&#8217;s great writers.
