Macs

It’d be great to see more Macs in the main computer lab.  And more windows!

We are glad you like the Macs in the Library.  We know they are popular and are happy to have several in the Learning Commons.  You can also find plenty of Macs in the Tech Center in the lower level of the Library.  As we replace equipment, we will consider options for additional Macs.  Thanks!

PrintGreen

We should be able to apply for a waiver to have more printgreen points added to our account if we’re in print-heavy classes.

The PrintGreen allotment was designed to be incredibly generous with the vast majority of students never having to pay for printing.  It was our hope that offering 750 free prints would balance between classes that print more and those that require less.  The number of free prints available here is roughly double that offered by many other colleges doing something similar to PrintGreen.

While we are not able to add additional free prints to a student’s allotment, we do encourage students to contact the Technology Services Service Desk at 253.879.8585 or servicedesk@pugetsound.edu so we can help them find strategies that maximize the free prints they do have.

Restroom

Is it possible to get toilet seat covers for the 2nd floor restroom (by the PC’s)?

We will pass on your suggestion to the Facilities Department.

Color Printer

It would be great if students could use print credits to print in color, rather than pay copy services.  Some people don’t have the money to buy a printer or go to copy services.

Currently, we don’t have a color printer for public use, but we will look into this.  Thanks for the idea!

Wall Street Journal

Today is Wednesday.  The Wednesday Wall Street Journal is not here.  The Tuesday WSJ is not here.  The Monday WSJ is not here.  Does the school not get them anymore or what? – would be useful for finance current events.

We receive the Wall Street Journal in various formats.  The print WSJ is delivered via US Mail and there may be delays; especially when there is a federal holiday such as President’s Day.  We also receive the WSJ in electronic format.

PrintGreen

” Whose idea was it to pass on the cost of printing to the students?  This school isn’t exactly cheap… Seing (sic) as the library didn’t seem to get that the student body hates printgreen last semester, where can I voice my extreme dissatisfaction with this program?”

The Print Green program was implemented across the campus after thoughtful and meaningful discussion with many stakeholders including students, faculty, and administration.  It is not a library initiated program, but rather a program across the campus to provide consistent management of printing.  You indicated that you were unhappy that the university was passing printing costs on to students.  While it is true, that prior to Print Green, unlimited printing was possible, the new system provides for a generous level of printing set to a quota so as not to disadvantage the vast majority of students.

Please have a look at the Print Green web site that provides more details on the program:http://www.pugetsound.edu/about/offices–services/technology-services/help–support/printgreen/

Streaming movies

“Ive found it impossible to find the streaming movies available online thru CML!”

To find streaming media through the Collins Memorial Library catalog, you can conduct your search in the Collins Catalog and limit the location to streaming media using the drop down box next to the search boxes.  This will return a results list of only streaming items.

Color printers

Color Printers, DO IT!!  (Charge double or triple off of PrintGreen per page, totally worth it!)

Adding color printers is an appealing idea! I could see how it might make life easier.

We’ve passed this request on to Technology Services, who keep us in printers. Thanks for the suggestion!

Alumni accounts

Can there be an easier way for alumns (sic) to get temporary accounts?  Other schools give accounts for an extended period of time.

Alumni may use electronic resources within the library but are not eligible for remote access.  The library’s contractual agreements with the electronic resource providers prevent us from allowing off-campus access to these resources to non-current students, staff or faculty.  If license terms are violated, we may LOSE ACCESS to the resource either temporarily or permanently.

For more information, see General Use Guidelines for Electronic Resources.

Big Tables

More Big Tables!

Good idea! We added 3 big tables this summer, so we’re pleased to hear they work well for you, and we always appreciate hearing what kind of furniture is useful for you in the library. We can’t make more big tables happen next week, but we will keep them in mind and make every effort to get more.

Thanks for letting us know what you need.
